Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. had a surprising message on Tuesday for Democrats who might prefer to continue grousing over last week's election.
"The election is over," the Illinois Democrat told WWRL Radio's Steve Malzberg and Karen Hunter. "George Bush is the next president of the United States. And we need to rally behind the commander in chief and move the government and the business of the people forward."

To be sure, Rep. Jackson offered plenty of criticism about the election - recommending that the Electoral College be abolished and calling for uniformity in voting regulations.
But when it came to President Bush, the son of the civil rights leader who once said that Bush won the 2000 election using "Nazi tactics" was downright complimentary.
Not only did Jackson admit that Bush had done "some conciliatory things" since his victory, he even praised the president for "trying his best to set the best possible tone."
Jackson's rhetoric was much sharper when it came to his fellow Democrats.
"When you look at Bush's consistent message, and the absence of a Democratic consistent message, it shows a profound and a deep problem exists in the Democratic Party."
The Illinois Democrat said things were likely to get worse for Democrats before they get better.
