Kim Jong-il to N. Korea: Stop Smoking!

Kim Jong-il, the "president" of North Korea, is on a health kick.

He has decided to stop smoking and, like all good dictators, is calling on his countrymen to do likewise.

The BBC is reporting that media sources in South Korea say Kim, who is thought to have been in ill health during 2003, admonished the "three main fools of the 21st century": smokers, the computer illiterate, and people who are ignorant about music.

North Korea has even launched a public health campaign on television, warning of "the harm of cigarettes."

"Let's quit smoking and contribute in good health to the building of a powerful nation," says the North's Choe Ong-ju, chief public hygiene inspector.

The BBC reports that of North Korea's 22 million citizens, almost 9 million smoke cigarettes. The 40 percent smoking rate is among the highest on the planet.
