Latest Econut Fiasco: Mountain Lions Snack on Californians

State law prohibits Californians from hunting or killing mountain lions, but apparently the cougars have no such law, because they're hunting and killing Californians.

The latest attack: A 110-pound mountain lion mauled and severely injured a bicyclist Thursday in a park in Orange County and is suspected of killing a man whose body was found nearby.

Apparently there weren't enough animal "rights" fanatics around to keep authorities from fatally shooting the big cat.

The 2-year-old lion pounced on Anne Hjelle at Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, grabbed her by her head and began dragging her, said a friend who was with her, Debbie Nichols, who screamed for help and tried to free her companion.

"He dragged us down ... about 100 yards into the brush, and I just kept screaming," Nichols said. "This guy would not let go. He had a hold of her face."

Other cyclists in the area threw boulders at the animal until it fled. The bloodstained rescuers who told their tale of horror on this morning's news programs were not a pretty sight.

Miss Hjelle was in serious condition today at Mission Hospital.

Californians have suffered 13 attacks by mountain lions, including five fatalities, Doug Updike, a state biologist, told the Associated Press. Among the victims: a 5-year-old girl whose skull was partially crushed, left eye was blinded and right side was paralyzed.

Will the greens allow any controls on the state's thousands of mountain lions? Don't bet on it. After all, environment-destroying "environmentalists" who abetted California's deadly wildfires are still screaming about the new anti-fire law that even Sen. Dianne Feinstein supports.

Perhaps this is a "Predator" that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger could face down.
