Rush's Ratings Rise Confounds Democrat Prosecutors

If Democrats were hoping that the bogus pain-pill probe launched by partisan Florida prosecutors against Rush Limbaugh was going to topple him as the nation's No. 1 talk host, they got some bad news on Wednesday.

The phony scandal has actually boosted Limbaugh's ratings.

Arbitron numbers released by Limbaugh's Premier network showed a 9 percent increase in listeners age 12 and over compared with ratings for the summer survey.

Major urban markets coast-to-coast showed a healthy boost in Limbaugh's listenership, with affiliates in New York City up by 8 percent, Los Angeles up 14 percent, Chicago up 15 percent and Houston up a whopping 23 percent.

Meanwhile, a lawyer for the Florida attorney general's office is questioning the motives of investigators probing Limbaugh, saying they selectively withheld pertinent parts of communications with her office in what looks like an attempt to justify their actions.

"It seems to me that the purpose in contacting me about this issue may not have been to obtain impartial advice on an open government issue, but rather to use a part of our conversation to justify your office's decision that [case] documents should be released," general counsel Patricia Gleason complained in a letter. "This is disappointing to me personally and professionally."
