Slate magazine claims to have uncovered a brand new political phenomenon Republicans for Hillary.
Slate writer Timothy Noah says he could identify only five Democrats including former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo who have publicly called for Sen. Clinton to run for president next year. [Never mind those polls that say more Democrats want Hillary to run than those supporting all the announced candidates combined.]
Meanwhile, insists Slate, the Draft Hillary movement has positively exploded among conservatives.
"Who are the Draft Hillary conservatives?" writes Noah. "You'd do better to ask who isn't."
He goes on to list New York Times columnist William Safire, Wall Street Journal editorial writer John Fund, President Bush's cousin John Ellis, pundit Mark Steyn and former Clinton political guru Dick Morris - all of whom have warned in one form or another that Sen. Clinton has that lean and hungry look. [Well, hungry, anyway.]
For good measure, Noah throws in NewsMax.com's Carl Limbacher, who he identifies as "a right-wing investigative reporter" who "has published an entire book, titled 'Hillary's Scheme,' about how Hillary Clinton plans to run in 2004.
"Its findings have been endorsed by Rush Limbaugh ('There's no question Hillary Clinton wants to be president') and Sean Hannity ('Of all the books that have been written about [Hillary Clinton], this one is the definitive book that probably the Clintons will fear the most')."
Of course, as Noah well knows, none of the folks listed above are actually rooting for Clinton to enter the race.
They merely read the tea leaves through the prism of recent Clintonian history and realize that Hillary's presidential denials are about as authentic as her cookie baking recipe.
