Gray Davis' Koo Koo Roo Chicken Obsession

In a strange and sympathetic portrayal of the terminally bland California Gov. Gray Davis, GQ doesn't shed much light, but it does reveal a few factoids.

Davis, says the mag, eats the same lunch every day and the same supper every day. "Every [expletive] day," as GOQ says in its October edition.

At noon, a takeout turkey sandwich. At night, a takeout "skinless" chicken dinner. All courtesy of the fast-food chain Koo Koo Roo.

Davis describes his obsession this way: "With steamed broccoli. And they have these nice tomatoes ..."

The meal itself is not bland enough for Davis. He likes to bore folks as he describes "in detail the process by which he uses the microwave to heat up the chicken, if he's at home."

So, what gives - a liberal Democrat eating at a fast-food haven? Every day, almost every meal? Doesn't Davis know that fast-food chains are on the target list of trial attorneys trying to cash in?

An animated Davis defended his Koo Koo Roo obsession. "So you don't think it's junk food, the UCLA School of Public Health ranked it number one of fast-food restaurants. It's pretty healthy. Trust me."

With such a ringing endorsement, Davis could have a job as pitchman for the chain once he leaves Sacramento.

Such a move could also let him make pay back Taco Bell for conducting a poll that shows Arnold Schwarzengger leading the pack in the recall race.
