Ask your average "liberal" why America's government school monopolies are so wretched and he'll automatically complain that not enough money is being confiscated from taxpayers and spent. Wrong, wrong, wrong, and here's more proof.
A new study shows that the United States squanders more money on "education" than any other country, with mediocre results.
America spent $10,240 a student from elementary school through college in 2000, according to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a globalist outfit in Paris. The average was $6,361 among more than 25 industrial nations.
Yet the U.S. finished in the middle of the pack in 15-year-olds' performance on math, reading and science in 2000, and its graduation rate from high school was below the international average in 2001, the Associated Press reported today. Considering that illiterates can get a diploma in America, that's pretty bad.
"There are countries which don't get the bang for the bucks, and the U.S. is one of them," explained Barry McGaw, education director for OECD.
Education Secretary Rod Paige noted: "These results highlight an extremely important truth about our educational system. I think we have become complacent, self-satisfied and often lacking the will to do better."
Note to "liberals": Just because some bureaucrat says money is being spent on education doesn't mean anyone is being educated.
Now will wimpy Republicans have the guts to take on the education-destroying, union-pandering Democrat establishment and fight for school choice?
