McAuliffe: Gen. Clark Will Run as Dem
Gen. Wesley Clark hasn't officially told anyone what he will do as far as running for president goes ... but Terry McAuliffe thinks he knows.
The chairman of the Democratic National Committee told Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack that he expects the former MATO supreme commander to run for the party's 2004 presidential nomination.
"Chairman McAuliffe indicated he thought General Clark would get into the race," Vilsack press secretary Matt Paul said of Vilsack's conversation with McAuliffe.
General Clark told NewsMax a few days ago that he has, in fact, "been warmly welcomed by Democratic groups,” but that he has not yet decided with which party he might affiliate himself.
The retired general will be speaking at the University of Iowa on Sept. 19th, and he says he will announce his decision before then, in time for the Iowa caucuses, which start on Jan 19th, 2004.
