Alpha International Travel Agency is saying they handled travel for the Rev. Al Sharpton and his National Action Network between May 1, 2001, and Aug. 3, 2002, and set NAN up with "airline tickets and hotel services," according to the NY Post.
Now the company claims that Sharpton has stiffed them to the tune of $200,000. And it's not just failure to pay. The travel company says the Democratic candidate for president gave them
"fraudulent credit-card information."
Alpha has filed suit, in which they claim: "When Sharpton provided this false and misleading information ... [he] knew that the information was false and that [Alpha] would rely upon such false information."
Bunk, says Sharpton's lawyer, who plans to file a criminal complaint. He says Alpha is the party to blame for any wrongdoing, because they tried to put the National Action Network's charges on Sharpton's personal charge card.
Sanford Rubenstein, Sharpton's counsel, is also suspicious of Alpha's procedures because he says the card they tried to put the charges on "wasn't in existence" when NAN and AIT were working together.
Rubenstein says the only reason NAN hasn't paid its bill is because they can't seem to get an itemized bill describing exactly each of the charges adding up to the $$193,131.97 tab.
Alpha president Colin Hall told the Post that was nonsense. "They have everything and they've had it for months," he said, adding he got the credit card number from Sharpton himself.
The Post adds that Sharpton does like to "live large:" It reports that the Rev. Al's latest campaign filings reveal expenditures at the swanky Delano Hotel in Miami, the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons hotels in Washington, D.C., and meals at the posh Four Seasons hotel in New York.
