Elements of the Green Party are lashing out at Democrats and say they don't care if they ruin (again) the donkeys' bid for the White House in 2004.
"As the Democrats have retreated from their core constituencies, they have given the Republicans a real license to move into greater extremes," claimed Green Party media coordinator Scott McLarty, who accuses Democrats of betraying their would-be "progressive ideals."
The Democrat party "seems to be crumbling as a political force that means something to anybody, crumbling as a real force of opposition," he said. "That is what we mean when we say we are so strongly in favor of running a national candidate."
Peter Camejo, the Green attempting to replace California Gov. Gray Davis, said: "The Democrats are declaring war on the Green Party. Instead of fighting the Republicans, they are turning their hate on the Green Party."
Camejo last week blamed Democrats for attacking former presidential nominee Ralph Nader with a pie as Nader endorsed his candidacy.
"The Democrats who attacked Ralph Nader are hypocrites. He’s called a spoiler, for trying to change America," Camejo said.
Roger Hickey, head of a leftist pro-Democrat outfit that amusingly calls itself Campaign for America’s Future, still views Nader and company as spoilers. "If the Green Party mounts a candidate, you could see a replay of last time, where they draw just enough votes to make a difference."
Nader hasn't said yet whether he'll run. "Loony" Cynthia McKinney is supposedly another possibility if the Greens pick a presidential nominee.
