Hillary Clinton - whose role in her husband's administration was to cover up White House misdeeds, slander and otherwise punish political opponents, persecute and fire loyal employees such as the White House's travel staff on trumped-up charges, and frustrate the efforts of investigators probing the Clinton administration - now claims that President Bush is undermining "democracy."
The Bush administration, New York's junior U.S. senator said, is undermining what she falsely described as our "democratic" system by its alleged secrecy surrounding 9/11 and intelligence matters concerning the Iraq war.
"There is always tension, between the information that the executive branch needs to keep secret and the information that must be provided to the public to have an informed citizenry," the former first lady said a conference organized by a new leftist think tank calling itself Center for American Progress.
The reason for secrecy about those matters, she said, was "more about political embarrassment than national security."
Yes, she'd know a lot about that.
As a result, she said, "the pillars of democracy are shaking."
According to Capitol Hill Blue, Mrs. Clinton said the White House's reluctance to hand over some documents to the 9/11 commission "unnecessarily raises suspicions that it has something to hide - that it might use national security to hide mistakes."
This from the woman who managed to lose her law firm's billing records sought by the Justice Department for months until finally they mysteriously turned up in the White House's living quarters.
