ACLU Blubbers That Terrorists Might Be Deported

The same outfit that wants Terri Schiavo put to death for the crime of existing is boo-hooing that the U.S. hasn't bent over backward enough in telling foreigners from terrorist-infested nations how they can stay in the U.S.

The organization that calls itself American Civil Liberties Union whines that the government isn't pandering enough to men from 25 Middle Eastern, African and Asian countries, who have to reregister with immigration officials within 10 days of the anniversary of the date they first registered. Those who fail to obey the new law face deportation.

"I am concerned that the government appears to have made zero effort to let people know that they have this obligation," huffed Lucas Guttentag, director of ACLU's "immigrants rights" project.

However, Bill Strassberger, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said the men were given information packets when they registered telling them they had to reregister after one year.

"People who are visiting the United States have a responsibility to maintain their status and to know what they're required to do to maintain their status," noted Strassberger, as if being responsible for oneself is still a cherished value in the United States.

More than 83,500 of the men have already registered, but ACLU wants even more people from terrorist nations to be in America.

"It would appear that the government is more interested in trapping unwary immigrants than in actually communicating information about the obligation to reregister," Guttentag claimed.

Or it would appear that ACLU is more interested in endangering the U.S. than in actually supporting Americans' civil liberties.
