Democrat Jon Corzine: Bush Tax Cut Helped Economy
Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., acknowledged on Sunday that President Bush's tax cuts gave the economy a boost, a rare admission for a Democrat, whose party has made opposition to White House-backed tax relief one of its top political priorities.
"The fact is we are having a turnaround in the economy," Corzine told WABC Radio's Steve Malzberg. The conservative talk host then asked if the Bush tax cuts deserved the credit.
"The tax cut has had some benefit in that, there's no question about that," the New Jersey Democrat answered. He then singled out for honorable mention parts of Bush's tax cut legislation that were sponsored by Democrats.
Corzine said that while it's clear Bush's tax relief program has helped boost economic production, "whether this creates jobs is the real issue."
