Florida Court: Let Terri Schiavo Starve to Death

A Florida appeals court today refused to block the removal of a brain-damaged woman's feeding tube, one of the last hopes her parents had for keeping her alive.

Terri Schiavo, 39, is expected to die in agony within two weeks after the tube is removed Wednesday.

Her husband, Michael Schiavo, says he is carrying out her wishes that she not be kept alive artificially. Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, say their daughter could be rehabilitated.

"Our legal remedies are exhausted," the Schindlers' attorneys said.

Gov. Jeb Bush today said the case was "very troubling."

"This is not an easy situation for anyone. But at the end of the day, if it's possible for this woman to be able to continue to live without life support, then she should be able to do that. ... I don't know if that's the case or not, we'll never know if it stands where it is right now."
