Uproar Over Rush's Comments on McNabb

The same sort of people who say nothing when Democrats such as Cruz Bustamante and Sen. Robert "KKK" Byrd say "n--ger" in public are in a tizzy over comments Rush Limbaugh made about Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go," Limbaugh said on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown."

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

McNabb got off to the worst start of his career this season but has been to three straight Pro Bowls, two consecutive NFC championship games and was runner-up for NFL MVP in his first full season as a starter, the Associated Press reported today.

"It's what was said, and it's over. I'm going to continue to play football with my skin color and with my muscular build, as you guys say," McNabb said during a news conference today.

"I'm sure he's not the only one that feels that way, but it's somewhat shocking to actually hear that on national TV. An apology would do no good because he obviously thought about it before he said it."

ESPN spokesman Dave Nagle said, "He was comparing McNabb's performance on the field to his reputation in the media.

"ESPN hired Limbaugh for his passion and his ability to express opinion and spark debate as a football fan. In just one month, he has certainly delivered."

Since Limbaugh joined "Sunday NFL Countdown," ratings are up 10 percent and up 26 percent among men ages 18 to 34. Sunday's show drew its biggest audience in the regular season since 1996.

Newspapers such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Arizona Republic today were stewing about what they described as Limbaugh's "twisted view of America."

Rep. Harold Ford Jr., D-Tenn., who has never called for the ouster of Bustamante or Byrd or other racist Democrats, said this afternoon on Fox News Channel that ESPN should fire Limbaugh.
