George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon's '08 Presidential Picks George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon recently took time out from hawking their "Ocean's" sequel to engage in some presidential prognostication. Clooney told Time magazine, "I like Barack Obama a lot. I've spent some time with him." He divulged that he "actually had [a] conversation with him," revealing that he told Obama, "Look, I'll give you whatever support you need — including staying completely away from you." "Actors have done a lot of damage to candidates lately," Clooney explained. Story Continues Below
"My father ran for Congress in 2004, and it was 'Hollywood vs. the Heartland.' My father was Hollywood." Clooney's father lost the election. The actor is impressed with the Illinois senator's charisma. "When other politicians stop and listen, that's how you know what charisma is. You can't teach that. He walks into a room and you go, 'That's a leader,' " Clooney said. Damon jumped on the Obama bandwagon as well. "I'm an Obama guy too. I think a lot of the problems in the world would be mitigated if he were the face of our country. I haven't ever met him or talked to him, but he's the first person in a long time who I've been inspired by," Damon said. Pitt is whistling a different tune. He has endorsed everyone who is running. "I'm just hungry for some honesty and leadership. And I'm following them all — on all sides." Clooney had some unsolicited advice for a potential Republican candidate. "I'm just hoping Gingrich gets in. Come on, Newt!" 2. Charlie Sheen's Career Death Wish? Charlie Sheen wants the public to know that reports about him nixing the narration of a questionable 9/11 documentary are wrong. The "Loose Change-Final Cut" film deals with the same ideas that Rosie O'Donnell has been pushing; the theory being that some of the buildings that collapsed on Sept. 11 were not brought down by aircraft but rather were destroyed by explosives, which were planted inside the structures. "My views and convictions regarding the events of 9/11 have not wavered. I still firmly believe the citizens of this great country, especially the family members of those tragically lost, deserve a much more accurate and thorough investigation surrounding the horrific events," Sheen said in a press release. "The suspicious fact that certain relevant testimonies were not included in the Keen Commission's final report discredits the majority of their findings," Sheen added. Sheen advocates a "bi-partisan, democratically selected panel" to investigate the matter, "not some tepid rehash of Bush-serving lap-dogs cherry-picking evidence to support erroneous and fictional 'magic bullet' explanations." "I'm baffled as well by the fact bin Laden's crimes listed on the FBI's most wanted list do not include those of 9/11," the actor railed. Evidently, Sheen is undecided about whether he'll volunteer to be the poster boy for the "Loose Change-Final Cut" flick. "I await the newest version to be presented to me, at which point I will make my decision to participate (or not) based on the film's content and merit," Sheen shared. 3. Arnold Schwarzenegger Goes After Pirates Hollywood has unleashed its secret weapon on the Great White North in an effort to deal with pirates of the copyright variety. California "Governator" Arnold Schwarzenegger has convinced Canadian lawmakers to create and present legislation with the Hollywood hope of sinking video pirates. Tinseltown has been attempting to convince the Canadian government to pass legislation that would make it a criminal offense to videotape films in multiplexes. The Toronto Globe & Mail reported that Schwarzenegger spoke with British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell "about how important it is to pass laws to protect intellectual property, which is something that could happen very soon." Schwarzenegger also essentially did some arm wrestling with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, according to the Canadian Press wire service. Ironically, Arnold faces a foe that in many ways is Terminator-proof — technology. One pirated copy posted on the Internet effectively distributes a filched film around the globe. It looks like legislation alone won't relieve this Hollywood headache. 4. Michael Moore and His 'Sicko' Film Slammed by Elton John's Partner Michael Moore's latest film is being attacked by rocker Elton John's partner David Furnish. Furnish knows quite a bit about socialized medicine. "I completely disagree with Michael Moore," Furnish says. "With my own father, when he was ill, the only option was to hire a jet and fly him to America. It was the only place to get good treatment." Furnish's dad fled socialist-style healthcare in Canada to seek free market healthcare in the U.S. The flimflam filmmaker has publicly praised Canada's system and held it out as a model for the future of U.S. healthcare. After journalists challenged his claims, though, Moore started criticizing our northern neighbor's medical care but still insists that it is better than America's system. Furnish, his dad, and millions of others disrespectfully disagree. 5. Paris Hilton Plans Prison Diary As Paris Hilton (minus her pet Chihuahuas and cell phones) readies herself to spend 23 days in the slammer at the L.A. Century Regional Detention Center, she's also busy prepping a new book. The former high school dropout has made a lot of money turning headlines into bottom lines. The Internet home sex video that served to inflate her fame quotient appeared just prior to the premiere of her reality TV show "The Simple Life." Now Paris is planning the release of a prison diary, which is apparently set for later this year, according to the New York Daily News. This means Paris' punishment will end up stuffing even more dollars into her already heavily padded pockets. The hotel heiress wisely stayed away from the Hollywood party scene as she came to grips with her inevitable jail time. She did, however, manage to make a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards where she let it be known that she opted for harder prison time than she had to. "I did have a choice to go to a pay jail [a jail that is paid for extra amenities]," Paris indicated. "But I declined because I feel like the media portrays me in a way that I'm not and that's why I wanted to go to county, to show that I can do it and I'm going to be treated like everyone else. I'm going to do the time. I'm going to do it the right way." While in prison, Paris will reportedly receive special treatment for her own protection. And she'll also be assigned to a section of the prison facility that is separate from an area where hardened criminals are held. She will allegedly have one handpicked cellmate who has been incarcerated for a traffic related offense. Her grand entrance into the prison will likely resemble a red carpet affair. Every imaginable media are sure to be present, snapping pictures, streaming video, and profusely punditing. The big question is who'll be first to get the shot of the quintessential party girl in her non-designer jumpsuit. Editor's Notes:
