One Reporter's Opinion — Senate Bill 1348 Must Not Pass!
George Putnam
Thursday, May 31, 2007

It is this reporter's opinion that George W. Bush and a vast number of our senators have lost touch with the American people who support enforcement of our existing immigration laws.

Having failed to ram through SB 2611 in the last Congress, they are determined to pass SB 1348 which is a retread of 2611, only worse.

It is easy to see why President Bush has zero credibility in regards to immigration.

One only has to examine 1348 to agree with my good friend, Dr. Thomas Sowell, African-American professor at Stanford University, who says, "[This] current immigration bill, and of the arguments made for it, has fraud written all over it."

What can we do, the doctor asks, with the millions of people already here illegally?

We can't stop them from becoming 50 to 100 million or more. He says look at what happened under the previous amnesty in 1986, or listen to the words of Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation who says Senate Bill 1348 would "add 103 million people into the United States in 20 years, cost American taxpayers $2.3 trillion," and would give probationary amnesty to all illegal aliens.

Bush's temporary guest-worker program is an absolute fraud. Arch conservative Rush Limbaugh exclaims, "This amnesty bill spells disaster for America!"

Story Continues Below

Ann Coulter echoes Limbaugh. Next come Pat Buchanan and a host of others — conservative columnist George Will, presidential hopefuls Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson, Rep. Tom Tancredo, commentator William F. Buckley, former Attorney General Ed Meese, and a host of others who oppose SB 1348.

Ron Paul hits the nail on the head when he refers to the Senate "compromise" on immigration. He says it is a compromise alright — "a compromise of our laws, a compromise of our sovereignty, and a compromise of the Second Amendment."

Paul says anyone in Washington who believes this is a credible approach to solving our immigration crisis tells us "how out of touch our political elites really are."

So, who supports it?

The president, Sen. Ted Kennedy, and a host of others who would heap further cultural carnage on top of what Kennedy gave us in the form of his 1965 Immigration Reform Act and 1986 amnesty. There is nothing about SB 1348 to benefit America or the American people.

It is sheer treachery against citizenship, the Constitution, lawful behavior, and responsible immigration.

If this bill should pass and should the president sign it, it will propel our nation into balkanization, imported poverty, displacement of America's middle class, and destruction of the American dream.

It is time for the great American silent majority to shout in unison, "No!"

Thank God for the new media, a fusion of talk radio and Internet journalists who are leading the charge against Senate Bill 1348.

They are reminding the pro-amnesty senators that their support for SB 1348 is in defiance of the will of the vast majority of their constituents who support the enforcement of our existing immigration laws as opposed to their appeasement of big business and illegal aliens.

Every scientific poll registers a preponderance of opposition to SB 1348. As this is written, the American Legion, the nation's largest veterans' organization, is calling on Congress to reject the proposed legislation that would grant "fast track" citizenship or amnesty to illegals and aggressively enforce immigration laws and a stronger order of security.

Their national commander, Paul A. Morin, says, "The system is broken and it needs fixing, and the solutions being tossed around by some members of Congress are not in the best interest of this country."

It is this reporter's opinion that SB 1348 must be stopped dead in its tracks before it destroys the American dream!

Perhaps Mark Twain said it best when he lamented, "No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the Congress is in session."

Wake up America — for the good of our country. Kill SB 1348! Tell the president and the Senate for the good of our country to put aside power, greed, and money.

Time for the silent majority to speak up to tell the president and Congress that to enact SB 1348 is to adopt an unsustainable path and render a catastrophic disservice to our future generations!

There is little time left to block major irreversible change in our beloved America.
