One Reporter's Opinion — A Template for the Treatment of People
George Putnam
Thursday, April 5, 2007

It is this reporter's opinion that is time to set the record straight for the treatment of citizens and non-citizens.

Let the record show:

1.There will be no special bilingual programs, no special ballots for elections, and all government business will be conducted in our language.

2.Foreigners will not have the right to vote no matter how long they are here.

3. Foreigners will never be able to hold political office.

4. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or any other government assistance program.

5. Foreigners may invest in this country, but it must be an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.

6. If foreigners do come and want to buy land, that would be OK, but options would be restricted. These foreigners would not be permitted to own waterfront property. That property is reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.

7. Foreigners may not protest — no demonstrations, no waving of a foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad mouthing the president or his policies. And if they do violate this rule, they will be sent home!

8. If you come to this country illegally, you will be hunted down and sent straight to jail!

Harsh treatment, you say?

All of these rules just happen to be the immigration laws of Mexico.

And while Mexico denounces the criminalization of their citizens living without papers in the United States, Mexican law classifies undocumented immigration as a felony punishable with up to two years in prison or deportation.

Meanwhile, back in the United States, Mexicans routinely intervene in our political life and our court system.

Thousands of news stories report the contrast between the cruel treatment of Mexico's fellow Latinos with our own.

This is a template of the day-to-day humanitarian efforts put forth by us in treatment of those who violate our sovereignty.

By contrast, the Mexican government, which continues screaming for the rights of illegals in our country, has much harsher treatment in store for those that dare cross their own borders.

But as I say, it is time to set the record straight.

Who is harshly treating fellow human beings?
