1. Salma Hayek's Divine Delusions

Unmarried and pregnant "Ugly Betty" producer Salma Hayek recently expressed her displeasure with the way women are portrayed in the Good Book.

"I don't like the way the Bible views women — this thing about the Virgin Mary conceiving a child without having sex — so if you conceive a child by having sex, there's a subliminal message that there's something dirty about it," the actress told Marie Clare magazine.

"I mean, the possibility of creating another life should remind women that we are creators, that we are made like God in our ability. There is nothing greater than to create another human being."

"And this is what makes us divine," Hayek added.

Feminists are likely to love Hayek's Scripture rewrite. After all, it allows them to think that not only do they have the "right to choose" to have sex outside of marriage, the "right to choose" to get rid of an unborn baby and the "right to choose" to believe they are equal to God, they have the "right to pick and choose" what to believe the Bible really says about all of it.

2. John Edwards' Bad Hair Day

John Edwards is in a hairy situation.

The Democratic candidate has been caught using his campaign cash for at least two $400 trims given by Hollywood hairstylist Joseph Torrenueva, whose swanky salon is located in Beverly Hills.

"It's a ridiculous amount of money for a haircut. I'm actually embarrassed by it," Edwards told reporters after the story broke.

"Hopefully I'll have enough sense not to do that again," he added.

Edwards also got a $225 facial at a place called the "Pink Sapphire," which still leaves everyone wondering how much he pays for his pedicures and where he gets his eyebrows plucked.

3. Oliver Stone to Direct Ad for MoveOn

One of the leftiest groups out there, MoveOn.org, has announced that Oliver Stone will direct one of its TV commercials.

The ad is part of a campaign to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq. It will reportedly be a nationally televised 30-second spot that features a veteran of the Iraq war and/or the family of a veteran discussing negative aspects of the war.

Stone is donating his services to the group.

"We have leaders in Washington who say they're 'supporting our troops,' but the people who suffer most from their policies are the troops themselves," the Oscar-winner and conspiracy-minded director said in a written statement.

"I decided to participate in this project because, as a veteran, I know that America needs to listen to our servicemen and women. They've been there and they know what's really going on. They need to be part of this debate," Stone added.

The servicemen or women that, according to Stone, "America needs to listen to," will be chosen by MoveOn.org members.

4. Alec Baldwin Goes to Court Over Phone Tape

Alec Baldwin is taking legal action to find out who leaked to TMZ.com a message that he left for his 11-year-old daughter on an answering machine.

Baldwin has filed documents in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking a court hearing to determine whether his ex-wife Kim Basinger and/or her lawyers should be held in contempt.

"Petitioner [Basinger] is the only parent with custody, possession, and control of the minor child's telephone voicemail message that was disseminated to Harvey Levin and TMZ.com . . . it had to come from someone connected to the proceeding, and it was not me," Baldwin's filing indicated.

The "30 Rock" actor's visitation rights were temporarily taken away by a California Superior Court judge after she heard a cell phone recording that he had left for his child.

TMZ.com posted the audio recording on the Internet, and Baldwin's repugnant rant was then blasted throughout the media.

In the three-minute recording, Baldwin berated his daughter for failing to pick up her phone when he called. His spokesperson believes that Basinger and her lawyer leaked the tape to the media.

"The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order. Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years," the spokesperson said, adding that "in the best interest of the child, Alec will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing — keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order."

TMZ refuses to comment on how it obtained the recording, as has been the case for other recent troubled celebrity stories the Web site has reported on.

5. Two NBC Employees Land Seats on Phil Spector Jury

One of the jurors chosen for the Phil Spector murder trial is a "Dateline NBC" producer.

A second NBC employee, who is an electrician at the network's Burbank studio, will serve on the jury as well.

The jury consists of nine men and three women. It also includes a senior vice president of marketing for New Line Cinema.

According to a written juror questionnaire, the producer-juror has covered the O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson trials and has been researching Spector's case for several months.

The "Dateline" producer also noted that he has met with Michael Baden, a forensics expert working for the defense, who is the husband of one of Spector's lawyers, Linda Kenney Baden.

Because jurors are not allowed to discuss the case outside of court, the producer will not be able to turn his experiences into a "Dateline" special until after the trial is finished. However, in the meantime his experience will likely make him the leader of the jury and probable foreman.

During the selection process, jurors were asked if they believed celebrities in Los Angeles are treated differently by police; six jurors said yes, five said no and one had no opinion.

6. Karl Rove Untouched by Sheryl Crow and Laurie David

While attending the White House Correspondents Dinner, Karl Rove was ambushed by two of Hollywood's most rabid global warming advocates.

Singer Sheryl Crow and "An Inconvenient Truth" producer Laurie David reportedly sauntered over to the presidential adviser's table and attempted to engage Rove in gassy conversation.

The two enviro activists wrote the following on the Huffington Post about the encounter: "In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, 'Don't touch me.' How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow?"

I'd wager there are a whole lot of folks who wouldn't want to be touched by Sheryl Crow.
