Air America Is Floundering Steve Malzberg I only tuned into Air America on its local New York City affiliate because there was a commercial break in Rush Limbaugh's show. It was the first time I'd turned to the network in months. I had endeavored to ascertain the extent to which the topic of Imus was still a hot one with the libs on talk radio. But what I gained in my five minutes of listening was an education that went far and above any discussion of the fired talk-show host. When I first hit the button on my car radio, I was greeted by Air America host Tom Hartman who had apparently just done an anti-death penalty segment. Hartman told his audience that actor/liberal activist Mike Farrell had called in during the previous commercial break to inform him that there are four solidified examples of convicted murderers, who were put to death by the state, who later were proven to be innocent of the crimes for which they were convicted. What a revelation! Now what I find to be most striking here is that Hartman admits that in his research for his anti-death penalty segment, he did not manage to come across this piece of information provided by Farrell. Of course he didn't. If it were true, you and I and Tom Hartman would have the four names ensconced upon our good consciences because Farrell, the left, and a liberal mainstream media would have justifiably elevated the four cases into the gravest examples of injustice in our criminal justice system in order to make their case against capital punishment. But that hasn't happened has it? Next, Ellen Ratner of Talk Radio News Service joined Hartman to talk about the injustice of the death penalty and other assorted issues. From Ratner I learned that the shooter who went on a rampage on the Virginia Tech Campus today, killing at 32 and wounding many more, was encouraged to do so because Virginia has the death penalty.

That's right! Ratner's radical left wing analysis of this horrific crime claims that since Virginia has capital punishment, the shooter got the message that it's OK to kill, since the state does it. So blame the law in Virginia, not the shooter. Next Hartman decided to turn the conversation to the suicide rate in Great Britain. You see he is in possession of studies that show that when conservatives gain power in jolly old England, the country falls apart. The rich get richer, the middle class dwindles, and the suicide rate goes up. And guess what happens when liberals regain power? The rich don't do as well, the middle class thrives and suicides go down. Those conservatives are making them kill themselves. I learned all of the above in the span of about four minutes. I then left my car, went about my business for about a half hour, and then decided to tune in one more time to see what else I could learn from Air America in my crash course. When I rejoined Mr. Hartman he was talking about Karl Rove. He invoked the name of Dr. Joseph Goebbels while describing Rove, of course. He called Rove the architect of mass murder, claiming that 600,000 Iraqi's have been killed in the war by Rove. Hartman then lamented the fact that Rove seems so ordinary in physical appearance, but he wanted the listeners to take note, that it was the librarian looking types in Germany that had organized the holocaust for Hitler. But it didn't end there.
Rove, according to Hartman, is behind the whole Gonzalez mess. The purpose of firing the U.S. attorneys was to create single party rule in the United States, forever. Hartman said Rove was reinventing the Polit Bureau here in the U.S. If my five minutes spent listening to Air America is a fair representation of what their programming consists of, they are doomed to failure. New ownership and new monies won't fix Air America's problem, which is their program content. It doesn't appeal to independents, democrats or mainstream liberals. It's a network for extreme left wing nuts who live in their own small hateful world. Good luck.
