Had Enough of Global Warming?
Philip V. Brennan
Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Had enough yet?

They haven't got around to it yet, but you can bet the farm that they'll be blaming the bizarre April weather on . . . yep . . . that nasty old global warming.

Yeah, I know, it's got to be kind of a stretch to blame the alleged warming of the planet on bitterly cold weather, but these people have little trouble squaring the circle at the drop of a hat — or in this case, the drop of a thermometer.

Think about it. In the past few days, a 101-year-old rain record quadrupled! A record-breaking nor'easter dumped more than 8 inches of rainfall on New York City's Central Park, quadrupling the 101-year-old record for the date.

The storm knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people and was blamed for at least 11 deaths nationwide. Vermont got about 17 inches of snow, with snow still falling Monday across parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and Maine.

Snow drifts stranded tractor-trailers on highways in Pennsylvania. Washouts, flooding, mudslides, and fallen trees blocked roads from Kentucky to New England. Pounding waves completely covered the beach at Hampton Beach, N.H., where residents reported up to 5 feet of water pouring through their front doors. In normally balmy West Palm Beach, Fla., meteorologist Kim Brabander observed "We're running 10 to 15 degrees below normal area wide" (iceagenow.com).

Speaking of Florida, the frost line there has been steadily moving South over the past several years, causing many farming operations to have to move to Central or South America. In 1977 it snowed in Miami.

How cold is it up there in the arctic regions?

A pair of environmentalists headed for the North Pole regions had to call off the expedition almost before it got started, after one of them got frost bite. They reported that the temperature reached a record 100 degrees below zero in an area Gore insists is warming.

Some warming!

In the face of that certainty that global warming will be blamed for all of that, I'll risk incurring the fury of the Goreites by stealing a word from the title of his absurd (and Oscar winning) documentary and take a look at some very inconvenient facts.

Fact #1 - Every ice age over the past five million years has begun once atmospheric levels of CO2 exceeded 330 ppms. Every single one. For good reason: The increase in atmospheric levels of CO2 - that dreaded "greenhouse gas" - increases global warming that paradoxically brings on ice ages. It's now above 400 ppms.

As revealed by the late John Hammaker in his "The Survival of Civilization" glaciation usually occurs at a time when the earth's tectonic system has fired up volcanic activity by feeding ocean floor into the continental heaters, which are located primarily in the Pacific "ring of fire."

Volcanic action releases large amounts of liquefied gases trapped in the molten rock. CO2 and sulphur dioxide (SO2) are the principal gases released, and both cause the "greenhouse effect."

Glaciation is an acceleration of the normal process of using evaporated water to carry excessive heat energy from warm zones to cold zones. The greenhouse effect of an increase in atmospheric CO2 is to increase cloud cover over polar latitudes. The clouds have a cooling effect as well as providing the snow for glaciation.

As Robert Felix has pointed out on iceagenow.com the "greenhouse" heating effect is causing large amounts of evaporation from the tropical oceans, much of it caused by underseas volcanic activity. Cold polar air moving over the cold land areas displaces this lighter, warm, wet air from the tropics, forcing the warm air to flow over the warm oceans toward the northern latitudes to replace the cold air, be cooled, lose its moisture to snow, and descend over the land mass.

The result is massive cloud cover under which huge amounts of cold air are generated and from which ever-increasing amounts of precipitation occur. The incredible cold fronts that froze large areas of the U.S. this month and created violent storms, were the result of air moving southward from the poles over huge snowpacks that refrigerated the air.

Despite Al Gore's propaganda, the polar regions are not warming, they are getting colder. Like 100 degrees below zero for starters.

Fact #2 - Glaciation is the normal state of planet earth, interglacials such as the one planet has been enjoying for the past 12,000 years or so (all human history has occurred in that span of years, all of it) are the exception.

Paleological research reveals that there is a cycle of glaciation and interglaciation. Every 100,000 years there is a period of glaciation lasting about 90,000 years, followerd by an interglacial period of 10,000 to 12,000 years. The last ice age ended 12,000 years ago!

Clearly we are on the cusp of glaciation unless Al Gore has repealed what the record shows to be an iron clad rule of nature.

Fact #3 - The global warming theory is the advance guard of a political movement that would subject the governance of the world's economy to the tender mercies of the United Nations. It would impose Marxism on the entire globe, destroying national sovereignty and wreck the world's economy.

Writing in the Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics University of Copenhagen, professor Bjarne Andresen in collaboration with Canadian professors Christopher Essex from the University of Western Ontario and Ross McKitrick of the University of Guelph, analyzed the global warming arguments.

Noting that it is generally assumed the earth's atmosphere and oceans have grown warmer during the past 50 years because of an upward trend in the so-called global temperature, which is the result of complex calculations and averaging of air temperature measurements taken around the world, he wrote: "It is impossible to talk about a single temperature for something as complicated as the climate of Earth.

"A temperature can be defined only for a homogeneous system. Furthermore, the climate is not governed by a single temperature. Rather, differences of temperatures drive the processes and create the storms, sea currents, thunder, etc. which make up the climate"

He added that the currently used method of determining the global temperature — and any conclusion drawn from it — is more political than scientific.

The bottom line is that we may well be facing the end of an interglacial period, an end that is marked by increasing violence that could kill millions and millions of people, by distracting our attention from where it should be focused: on our immediate prospects of survival.

For that he has earned the undying contempt of his fellow Americans. Instead he gets Oscars and the fawning attention of members of Congress.
