Appearing before the United States Senate last Tuesday, former Vice President Al Gore attacked skeptics of his global warming theory asking, "Didn't they see the mountain glaciers melting in every part of this earth? Didn't they see the north polar ice cap melting? Didn't they hear the scientists say it may be gone in as little as 34 years?"
Among those skeptics, it would appear, is Mother Nature who has been throwing a lot of ice water on Gore's claims.
How, for example, can an arctic region which has been sending bitterly frigid cold fronts south into the temperate region if it is, as Gore insists, warming?
Contrary to the contentions of the Wizard of Ooze, the arctic regions are still the world's refrigerators, and the ice tray is overloaded. While brother Gore warms the hearts of his adoring globaloneyists, Mother Nature is turning the thermostat down up north.
Consider:
World Climate report Jan 15 - Five of the seven sea ice in [Hudson Bay] stations show either significant trends of increasing maximum ice thickness, earlier occurrence of the maximum thickness, or both.
In contrast, only one station, a lake ice station, evidenced a significant thinning trend. Source: October 2006 issue of Climate Research, Alexandre Gagnon of the University of Liverpool (United Kingdom) and William Gough of the University of Toronto Scarborough (Canada) reported on trends in Hudson Bay sea ice thickness using data from the Canadian Ice Service.

"Anchorage on track to set record for coldest March," according to the Anchorage Daily News. As Alaskans continue to endure frigid weather and blustery wind, March is headed to being one of the coldest on record, weather experts say.
Here are some weather facts and a look at how the cold is affecting life in Homer: "41 Days of Freezing" — Anchorage hasn't recorded a temperature above freezing since Feb. 3. "9.2 Degrees Average" — Since Feb. 18, the average temperature in Anchorage has been 9.2 degrees. "1956 Was the Coldest" — Temperatures during this period averaged 7.2 degrees in 1956, the coldest on record.
Fairbanks had the coldest mid-February to mid-March since weather records began in Fairbanks back in 1904, according to the National Weather Service.
That frigid weather didn't remain static up north — it moved south into the northern U.S. On March 9, for example there were record lows at Island Pond, Vt., where it was an incredible -34 degrees below zero, -31 degrees below zero in Sutton, Vt., and Whitefield, N.H. It hit -29 degrees in Saranac Lake, N.Y., -18 degrees in Glens Falls, N.Y., and -11 degrees below zero in Bangor, Maine.
Kinda cold up there, eh, Al?
I hate to be repetitive, but it should be axiomatic by now that the Arctic region is the Northern Hemisphere's refrigerator. It sends cold air south. If, as Al Gore insists, the refrigerator is losing its coolant, how can it continue to send bitterly frigid cold fronts southward? If the freon leaks out of your kitchen refrigerator it will stop doing its job of keeping its contents cold.
That's just plain common sense, an asset obviously lacking in the fevered minds of the global warming fanatics.
Much of the so-called evidence that the planet is warming is also evidence of the opposite — that it is also cooling.
For example the tropics and the temperate zones are getting warmer. And there is a reason: The oceans are warming thanks to increased heating by the sun, and tectonic activity such as underseas volcanic eruptions and red hot magma seeping up from cracks in the ocean floor.
The heated oceans send more and more moisture aloft along with CO2, creating heavier and heavier rain or snowfall, and increased clouds in the northern regions which retard summertime melting of snow and ice.
As the superheated air moves north, it runs smack into the super cold air coming south, resulting in violent storms. The colder the air coming south and the warmer the hot air coming north, the more violent the storms the collisions create.
If Mr. Gore, who blames the violent weather on global warming is right — that the arctic region is warming — how can it continue to send southward the super cold fronts that are required to create more and more and more violent weather in the temperate zones? That frigid air is an essential component in creating storms. Take it away and the storms - the tornadoes, blizzards and hurricanes — will lose their punch, which is obviously not happening.
Just a little more of the common sense the globaloneyists spurn.
Let me close with excerpts from Britain's enormously insightful Melanie Phillips in her March 13th blog (melaniephillips.com):
"The climate change truth-deniers — On BBC Radio Four's Today programme this morning, the Environment Secretary David Miliband, asked whether there was anything in last week's Channel Four documentary ‘The Great Global Warming Swindle', gave the following memorable reply: 'I didn't see the programme — but I promise you I will do a blog demolishing its contents.'
"This just about sums up the received wisdom on man-made global warming: conclusion first, evidence later. Miliband's reply was of a piece with the general response by the global warmers to the C4 film's evidence: it has either been ignored, or rubbished with some feeble arguments, or its production team has been subjected to character assassination. It is, of course, a response straight out of the Stalinist manual of propaganda and manipulation.
"The evidence that science — as opposed to the politicised version of it — does not support global warming theory has been obvious ever since this theory first burst upon us in the late 1980s. What is only now surfacing, however, is the evidence of the corruption of the processes being used to promote this scam and the intimidation of any scientists who try to tell the truth.
"For me, the most explosive revelations on the C4 film were scientists testifying to this corruption — from the vast amounts of grant money being used to create an entire global warming industry making it financially difficult for scientists not to produce ‘research' that supported the theory; to the falsification of the computer models in order to produce the alarmist predictions that would attract such funds; to the IPCC's deletion of crucial parts of the evidence that didn't fit the theory; to the circular argument that there was now a ‘consensus' on the theory among all the finest minds in science around the world.
"And let's not forget the astounding fact that the IPCC itself has said in terms that the scientific evidence for its fourth report —evidence which has not yet even been finalised — is to be brought into line with the ‘summary' of that evidence which was published last month. In other words, the ‘summary' was published before the evidence of which it was allegedly a reflection had even been finalised — and that evidence is to be changed to fit it if it deviates from what the summary said. Conclusion first, evidence later — or rather, evidence denied."
Amen!
