NEW YORK -- ESPN programming and NBC's coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics from Turin highlighted the nominations for the 28th annual Sports Emmy Awards Thursday.

ESPN's original channel captured the most nominations with 26, followed by NBC (24), HBO (16), CBS (14) and Fox (13), ABC (10) and the NFL Network (nine).

Fox's Joe Buck received two nominations, including play-by-play and studio host. Cris Collinsworth is up for studio analyst for his work on HBO and NBC as well as sports event analyst for his work with Bryant Gumbel on the NFL Network. Bob Costas received a nomination as studio host for both his HBO and NBC work.

The Winter Olympics captured by far the most nominations (10) for categories including live-event turnaround, sports documentary, writing and music.

Another Sports Emmy favorite, HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel," received five nominations, including three nominations in sports journalism (up against ESPN's "Outside the Lines").

Live sports specials nominated were NBC's 131st Preakness, ABC's 2006 FIFA World Cup, Fox's "MLB on Fox: Postseason," CBS' "NFL on CBS" for the Pittsburgh-Indianapolis divisional playoff and CBS' coverage of the Masters.

ESPN's "Monday Night Football" received three nominations, including live sports series. Other nominees in that category are ESPN's college football and Major League Baseball telecasts plus HBO's pay-per-view boxing and NASCAR on TNT and NBC.

Nominations for sports documentary went to "Ali Rap" (ESPN), "Biography: Tiger Woods" (the Biography Channel), "One of a Kind: The Rise and Fall of Stu Ungar" (ESPN/Red Line Films), "The XX Olympic Winter Games: The Great Race" (NBC) and "Wait 'Til Next Year: The Saga of the Chicago Cubs" (HBO).

Other nominations include:

Weekly studio show: "College GameDay" (ESPN), "Inside the NFL" (HBO), "NBA Nation" (ABC), "Sunday NFL Countdown" (ESPN) and "The NFL Today" (CBS).

Daily studio show: "Baseball Tonight" (ESPN), "Inside the NBA - Playoffs" (TNT), "Olympic Ice" (USA), "Outside the Lines" (ESPN) and "Pardon the Interruption" (ESPN).

Beyond Buck and Costas, studio-host nominations went to TNT's Ernie Johnson, CBS' James Brown, NBC's Jim Lampley and the NFL Network's Rich Eisen.

Play-by-play nominations went to Buck, CBS' Jim Nantz, Al Michaels (who worked for both ABC and NBC), TNT's Marv Albert and ESPN's Mike Tirico.

Studio analyst nominations went to TNT's Charles Barkley, HBO/NBC's Collinsworth, ESPN's Jay Bilas, Fox's Jeff Hammond and ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit. Collinsworth received another nomination for sports event analyst along with Fox's Darrell Waltrip (his first nomination), ESPN's Jerry Bailey, NBC's Johnny Miller and Fox's Tim McCarver.
