1. Far-Left Bloggers Get Nevada Debate Nixed
Internet lefties hate the Fox News Channel with a vengeance.
The same group of techies who pushed Howard Dean's presidential campaign into
the spotlight has shown that it can call the shots when it comes to state party
officials.
With its caucus being second in line in the 2008 primary season, the Nevada
Democratic Party wanted to have a large audience view its August debate between
Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, et al. It chose the cable network with the
biggest audience, Fox.

Through a barrage of postings and e-mails, enraged bloggers put the pressure on.
John Edwards was the first to fold.
Using as their excuse a humorous remark made by Fox News' chairman that poked a
little fun at President Bush, Nevada Democrats cancelled the debate capitulating
to the whims of the fringe Democratic base.
There's an obvious choice of venue for Dem debates, the place where John Edwards
announced his presidential candidacy.
No, it's not Keith Olbermann's show.
It's the "Daily Show" on Comedy Central.
2. Tim Robbins's Left-wing Activism Pays Off
Despite his infamous "chill wind" speech in which actor-activist Tim Robbins
claimed his free expression was being stifled, he is now acknowledging that his
left-wing activism has actually helped his career.
Taking positions against President Bush has created opportunities for Robbins,
the Post-Chronicle reports.
"I really don't think that expressing my opinions has harmed my career," Robbins
acknowledged. "Although many people would like you to think that."
Robbins even bought up the name of now-departed filmmaker who gave him roles
because of his activism.
"And you can be sure that I'd have never got to work with someone like Robert
Altman if I hadn't expressed my opinions," Robbins revealed.
3. Leonardo DiCaprio in Production on Global Warming Flick
Leonardo DiCaprio gazed on as the Academy showered affection on Al Gore as he
accepted an Oscar for his global warming lecture.
Now DiCaprio is in production on his personally penned documentary on the same
gaseous subject.
"Global warming is not only the number one environmental challenge we face
today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity," DiCaprio
elucidated.
The movie will be released in late 2007.
With the alarmist title "11th Hour," the flick will examine the global
environment and like Gore's flick will present solutions to the eco-problems of
the world.
One wonders if solutions will include buying phony carbon offsets like Gore and
the Hollywood entertainment companies.
4. Scooter Libby Judge Rescues Tim Russert's Reputation?
The judge in the Scooter Libby trial may have saved the rep of NBC's Tim Russert.
During the proceedings, Judge Walton characterized Russert as "if not the most
important witness in this case, he's one of the most important."
Libby lead defense lawyer Theodore V. Wells Jr. requested that the court recall
Russert for a return appearance in the courtroom to face some tough
cross-examination.
Libby's defense team claimed that Russert said he had never revealed a source,
when in fact he had done so in a conversation with an FBI agent.
Libby's lawyers also drew Judge Walton's attention to Russert's testimony in
which he indicated that he did not know witnesses routinely testify before grand
juries without their attorneys in the room.
Tim Russert is a lawyer himself.
Wells brought three video examples of Russert on TV during the Clinton-Lewinsky
scandal saying that if Clinton were called before a grand jury he would have to
do so without his lawyer.
But by ruling against Libby's counsel, Judge Walton saved Russert from what
would have been an embarrassing return to the witness stand. This ruling is
likely to be a part of Libby's appeal.
5. Fred Thompson Flirts With Presidential Run
Hollywood actor and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is leaving the door open
to a presidential run for the GOP nomination.
Thompson has appeared in the films "The Hunt for Red October," "Cape Fear," and
"In the Line of Fire."
In the film "Last Best Chance," Thompson actually portrayed the commander in
chief. The film was financed by the Nuclear Threat Initiative, a think tank that
was run by former Sen. Sam Nunn and advised by Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren
Buffett.
Thompson, who currently portrays a prosecutor on NBC's "Law & Order," told the
Fox News Channel, "I'm giving some thought to it, going to leave the door open."
"It's not really a reflection on the current field at all. I'm just going to
wait and see what happens," Thompson added. "I wanted to see how my colleagues
who are on the campaign trail do now, what they say, what they emphasize, what
they're addressing, and how successful they are in doing that, and whether or
not they can carry the ball next November."
Prior to Thompson's appearance, former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker and
other Tennessee Republicans had already begun drumming up support for Thompson's
potential GOP candidacy.
"I think people are somewhat disillusioned. I think a lot of people are cynical
out there. I think they're looking for something different . . ." Thompson said.
Conservatives who are dissatisfied with the stands taken by the current crop of
candidates will be gratified by Thompson's positions.
He's pro-life, against gay marriage, opposes gun control, supports President
Bush's surge, and would pardon Scooter Libby.
