For the past week I have sat and watched as CNN's crown jewel, Larry King, has been discussing the war in the Middle East. Among those assembled as part of his "expert panel" is former U.S. Senator George Mitchell, who as everyone knows sits on the boards of Disney and the Boston Red Sox. What is never mentioned is that although he was born in the United States, Mitchell is half Lebanese.
You can rest assured that if King's "experts" included a former senator whose father or mother had been born in Israel, the host would go out of his way to make us aware of that fact. If Gene Simmons of Kiss were on the panel, we'd be told that he was born in Israel.
But the silence on Mitchell isn't the worst of the sham being perpetrated upon King's viewers. Queen Noor, the widow of the late King Hussein of Jordan, is another panel member. Before I share with you some of her "expert" analysis on the war, allow me to quote the Queen from her 2003 book, "Leap of Faith."
"Jews, Muslims, and Christians had lived peacefully in the Middle East and indeed in Palestine for centuries. It was not until the rise of Zionism and the creation of Israel that animosities took root."
Translation: The Arabs were a peaceful people living in a peaceful region until those Jews came along and actually wanted to live alongside us. There never was a problem when there were one or two Jews here and there, but once they wanted a country the size of Rhode Island, surrounded by Arab lands that dwarfed her in size and population, that's when the trouble started. Those pushy Jews!
Story Continues Below
"Jews achieved influence and power at the highest levels [in the U.S.]. ... Confronting the power of the Zionist lobby for the first time was sobering. AIPAC's [American Israel Public Affairs Committee] supporters were CEO's of major American corporations, and representatives of the top levels of media and entertainment, business, financial institutions, legal and medical professions and increasingly the highest reaches of government."
Translation: The Jews in America control America. They control the media and the banks, they control the legal system, and in fact they are in control of more and more of the U.S. government.
(Didn't I just hear Pat Buchanan say the same things on MSNBC's "Hardball"? Too bad he works for the other network, or I'm sure King would be pairing Pat with the good Queen.)
You might think that statements like those quoted from her recent book might disqualify Queen Noor from playing the objective observer on King's show. To the contrary; he keeps inviting her back night after night. And if you didn't read her book, my column "Jordan, Jews and Terrorists" from November 2005 or this column, you may never have known the depths of the Queen's problem with Israel and Jews in general. King, good journalist (and good Jew) that he is, isn't about to spill the beans.
So, just what has Her Majesty had to say about the war? Get a load of this two-minute uninterrupted rant on King's show last Tuesday:
"This action, [Israel's] destruction of civilian infrastructure, the loss of so many civilian lives ... the disproportionate use of force [by Israel] has only undermined moderates in the region and empowered extremists in the region. Unless there is a 'shock and awe' commitment to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict, the disruption of Arab lives, the refugees, who, since 1948, their descendants and those displaced since 1967 number about 4.9 million.
"The Gaza – yes as mentioned so often, the Israels withdrew and don't understand why there are these problems. Well, Gaza was left like a prison ... absolute poverty there. And to the extent that 36 percent of young people in that community believe they have no hope for the future, no options, feel that maybe becoming a suicide bomber at the age of 18 is the best option they've got. That is how the seeds of violence and hate develop.
"Hezbollah and Hamas developed in response to Israel's occupation of Arab lands. That is where we must focus and that is the reason Israel is having so much trouble in the region. Focus on that and you drain away the support for military extremes. People will focus on building a better future."
Later in the show Noor had more. Looking down at her notes for each point, she said:
"I think it's vital that we recommit to resolving a just and comprehensive peace that will resolve and end occupation. That will deal with the refugees. That will bring the parties together to listen to one another, to engage in a mutually respectful dialogue no matter what the history, because there is an ugly history on all sides in this conflict."
Translation:
"I don't really give a damn that Israel was attacked. I don't really give a damn that Israel is still being attacked. I don't give a damn that Iran has been arming and rearming Hezbollah through Syria and that's the reason Israel has been forced to hit the Lebanese infrastructure. I don't give a damn that Hezbollah and Hamas violate the Geneva Conventions by placing themselves, their rockets, their rocket launchers and their headquarters among the civilian population, and that's why civilians in Lebanon are dying.
"I want the Palestinians to have more territory, more land from which to launch rockets aimed at civilians in Israel. In fact, give them their own state. Just make sure the damn Palestinians stay the heck away from Jordan. As you know, we have enough of them right now. Don't forget we threw the PLO out of Jordan. We want nothing to do with them. Let them all hit Israel and leave Jordan alone.
"And if you want to make sure that a Palestinian state won't try to destroy the state of Israel, make sure the 'refugees' that I speak of are allowed the 'right of return.' That means they will overrun what is now Israel, and Israel will cease be a 'Jewish state.' Then you will have the proper 'two-state solution' the Arabs speak of so often: two Arab states living side by side. It'll be OK. The Jews can make the bricks or something.
"Oh yes, if you don't follow this plan, Arab children will continue to be taught in school and on their TV shows that they will 'take Jerusalem with their blood.' They will also learn that becoming a martyr is the way to bring honor to their family. They will continue to play with trading cards and visit soccer stadiums that bear the names of other children who have grown up and gone on to kill innocent Jews while blowing themselves up. They will continue to attend terrorist rallies dressed as cute little suicide bombers (don't you love the headbands, so cute!). They will continue to learn that Jews are the devil who use the blood of Palestinian children to make matzos on Passover."
Yes, Her Majesty is doing a job on King and on the rest of the world tuning in. If you've not yet seen her vicious act, don't worry – I'm sure King will have his Queen back all week long.
