Vote Democratic for Armageddon Lowell Ponte Imagine that you are a liberal Democrat, excited by recent polls that suggest your party is likely to recapture control of at least one, and perhaps both, of the two Houses of Congress this November. Would this control bring peace or Doomsday? You believe that your despised President George W. Bush is a narrow-minded true believer of the evangelical Christian right who eagerly awaits the second coming of Jesus. Mr. Bush, you believe, may be a Christian version of Iran's crazed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who believes that Islam's Mahdi, Shia's 12th Imam (vanished a millennium ago) speaks inside his head and in less than two years will annihilate all infidels and bring Islam's global triumph. What if your fanatical view of President Bush is correct? If Republicans lose control of either the House or Senate this November, the Bush presidency is effectively finished. His bill and nominees might all be blocked, and his final two years in the White House will be swamped by Democratic impeachment efforts that, however dishonest and ideologically motivated, will have the full propaganda backing of America's left-wing mainstream media.

But between the Nov. 7 election and the congressional transfer of power in late January, more than two months will elapse with lame duck Republicans still in control. With nothing left to lose, what actions might a born-again, apocalyptic President Bush take? Both President Bush and the state of Israel have looked past today's small-scale struggle with Hezbollah in Lebanon and know what could come next. Hezbollah is merely a puppet of the medieval theocratic Shiite dictatorship in Iran, which has been supplying this Shia terrorist army $100 million per year in weaponry. Iran likewise has armed and funded Hamas, which now rules the Palestinian Authority that hems Israel, north and south. Iran is rushing to acquire nuclear weapons and will quickly put them into terrorist Hezbollah and Hamas hands. The next 9/11 will do more than kill a few thousand Americans and destroy the World Trade Center. The next 9/11 will turn New York City and other American cities into radioactive Shoah pits smoking with the ashes of millions of people.
Now imagine you are President Bush on the morning after losing control of Congress in this November's election. With only weeks of viable power left, why not take the step that everyone knows is necessary for the future survival of world civilization but every politician here and abroad has been afraid to take? Why not order a massive strike, even a nuclear strike with low-fallout neutron bombs, on all the atomic (and Islamist religious) facilities of Iran? Drive a stake through Iran's dictatorship and its puppets Hezbollah and Hamas will disintegrate. Politicians all over the world would condemn Bush for this, of course, while privately thanking God that Bush destroyed this monstrous regime installed by Democratic President Jimmy Carter. Left-wing journalists and historians were going to trash Bush anyway. Days ago Hezbollah rockets rained down on Afula, known in ancient times as Ophrah. I've been in Afula in Israel's Jezreel Valley near Har Megido, "the Mountain of Megiddo," known to most Christians from the Bible's Book of Revelation (16:16) as site of the future battle between Good and Evil associated with Christ's Second Coming, the Battle of Armageddon. With his political strength gone and hair shorn, President Bush the morning after this November's defeat could decide that his divine destiny is to pull down the pagan temple of Iran, to exterminate the world-threatening regime in Tehran. If this ushers in Armageddon and the Second Coming of Christ, this is God's will. Liberal Democrats who bray for peace should ponder the ancient Roman saying Si vis pacem, para bellum, "If you want peace, prepare for war." Today its obverse could also be true: If you want cataclysmic global war, vote for "peace" this November. If you vote Democrats into power in the name of peace, the result is going to be nuclear Doomsday either from the Bush White House or, soon thereafter, from nuclear-armed Ayatollahs in Tehran emboldened by your Jimmy Carter-like weakness. A similar paradox is evident in the fanaticism of Hezbollah, Hamas, and Amadinejad in their lust they share with American leftists for Israel's annihilation. But if Israel's military is pushed to the brink of such a new Holocaust, it will unleash all 400-plus nuclear weapons in its arsenal. Only radioactive craters will remain where once stood Tehran and Iran's "holy city of Qom," Damascus and Tripoli, Beirut and Baghdad, Amman and Islamabad, and Pakistan. Cairo and the bulk of Egypt's population will be drowned (as Pharoah's army once was for seeking Hebrew extermination) by the gigantic tsunami surging down the Nile River after Israel's special bombs breach the Aswan Dam that forms Lake Nasser. And in Saudi Arabia the cities of Riyadh and Mecca will be vaporized under multiple mushroom clouds. Where the Kaaba once stood, its sacred black stone (probably a meteorite) will be shattered and melted, its bits and pieces so clicking hot with radioactivity that for the next 25,000 years any Haj pilgrims visiting this meteor-like crater will die soon thereafter. Those who embrace the Islamist cult of death, expect Allah to give them earthly victory and 72 virgins (and "boys" for their pleasure with "skin like pearls," promises the Quran) in Muslim heaven. But after Israel's "never again" nuclear response to their planned Holocaust, few Islamofascists will remain alive on Earth. Oil will, for a time, top $120 per barrel, exceeding $5 per gallon at the pump. This will accelerate the long-needed global transition to alternative energies and weaken the oil-based power of "moderate" Muslim Indonesia and incipient Marxist oil superpowers Venezuela and Mexico. Those who have used our oil dollars to fund anti-Western terrorism will again, as a century ago, be mere Third World goat herders and peasants. History, written by the winners, might revise President St. George Bush, the dragon-slayer, into a hero or Christian martyr. Liberals, consider carefully what you wish and vote for this November.
