One Reporter's Opinion: Illegals Take to the Streets
George Putnam
Friday, March 31, 2006

It is this reporter's opinion that having observed the turmoil in America throughout 70 years as a journalist, the Marxists, Communists, Socialists and activists have never given up. They are still with us. While politicians debate the illegal-alien invasion in America and the Mexica Movement and other organizers of mass protest take to the streets demanding their "rights," we American citizens stand on the sidelines and allow this attempt to destroy America.

The demonstrations, the mass marching, didn't just pop up overnight; they are well organized. Meanwhile, our leaders – the president (and his half-hearted approach to defending the sovereignty of America), religious leaders such as Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles (who tells his 5 million Catholics to violate anything that would strengthen immigration law), and – weaken us further.

These supposed pillars of morality stand aside as the organizers of mass protest decide it is the non-indigenous white, English-speaking U.S. citizens of European descent who should leave our continent. Oh, don't doubt their intent; the pictures and captions tell the story:

  • "This is our continent, not yours" exclaims one banner.
  • "We are indigenous, the only owners of this continent" says another.
  • And the worst: "If you think I'm illegal because I'm a Mexican, learn the true history because I am in my own homeland."
One of the most obnoxious moments in the recent Los Angeles turmoil was when a marauding group of students tore down the school's American flag, replaced it with a Mexican flag, then ran up the American flag beneath the Mexican flag upside-down (the signal of distress).

And there are posters and banners characterizing those who speak for America as Nazis. Yet not a word of protest from the president, the cardinal or the Los Angeles mayor. What a disgraceful time in American history!

One who is qualified to speak objectively from both sides of the U.S.-Mexican border is our good friend Allan Wall, recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. Wall resides "legally" in Mexico with his wife, Lilia, a Mexican national, and their two young sons. Allan is an American who has been observing the marches in Los Angeles, Denver, Sacramento, Chicago, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Phoenix and elsewhere. The largest of these was March 25 in Los Angeles, where half a million turned out.

Allan draws a sharp contrast between the American and Mexican constitutions. He cites the fact that our Constitution doesn't include street protest as a form of legislation – that those who drafted our Constitution were opposed to "MOBOCRACY." "Many of the demonstrators are illegal aliens who don't have the right to be in our country, yet they're telling us they have their rights," he says.

Allan asks, "Why do so many display the Mexican flag if they are fighting for their rights in the United States?" Many of these protesters carry signs reading "CHICANO POWER," "THIS IS STOLEN LAND" and "VIVA MEXICO!"

Allan says: "Mexico would not allow this type of nonsense for a moment. Mexico respects her own sovereignty too much for that."

Living in Mexico, he cites the fact that legal gringos are not allowed to participate in protest marches, that in the year 2002 a number of Americans were immediately expelled for doing just that. He quotes Article 33 of the Mexican constitution: "Foreigners may not in any manner involve themselves in the political affairs of the country."

The thing is, Mexico has so many problems of its own and yet it is meddling in our affairs. And yet in broad daylight these demonstrators, marching openly and without fear, dictate to us what our immigration laws should be.

Tragically, all too many of these youngsters are dropouts who have no understanding of why they are protesting but are following the dictates of sinister manipulators bent on destroying our nation. These kids, who are just being used, are unable to articulate and most of them can't even carry on a sensible conversation.

Meanwhile, the Senate is quibbling and compromising away the heart of America. H.R. 4437 has passed through Congress and should be adopted in its entirety by the Senate. Instead they "fiddle as Rome burns." Unfortunately, history will record that we had our chance.

In 1919 President Theodore Roosevelt spoke of the decision to become an American and nothing but an American. He said there can be no divided allegiance, that we have one flag, the American flag ... that we have room for but one language and we have room for but one sole loyalty – loyalty to the American people. Teddy had it right. Let's hope this enlightens George.
