How to Become a Naturalized Citizen of the U.S.
[OR]
How to Attain One of the Most Coveted Opportunities Available on Planet Earth
Let's look at the main requirements to become a naturalized citizen:
Story Continues Below
1. Lawful entry as a permanent resident.
2. Continuous residence in the U.S. for at least five years prior to filing a petition for naturalization.
3. Physical presence in the U.S. for at least half of the period of continuous residence.
4. Read, write, and speak good English. (Those who are over 55 years of age and have lived in the U.S. for at least 15 years are not required to fulfill this requirement.)
5. Knowledge of U.S. history and understanding of the fundamentals of our government.
6. Good moral character and attachment to the principles of our Constitution.
And, of course, the ever present requirement - an oath of allegiance to the Constitution and the U.S. There is no exception to these requirements.
Each incoming citizen must absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, and state.
Our immigration policies are the most generous in all the world. Our nation regularly admits more foreign people for legal residence than all the nations of the world combined and yet our illegal alien problem is completely out of control.
As we attempt to absorb millions of people who enter this country illegally, we are constantly criticized by our neighbor, Mexico, because of half-hearted efforts to toughen border enforcement. Yet Mexico's Federal Human Rights Commission acknowledges Mexico uses the same methods in dealing with illegals. In Mexico, illegal entry is a felony; the Mexican government enlists military and local police to stop illegal entrants
Mexico's Federal Human Rights Commission acknowledges both tactics are used by its government. Mexico's population law includes prison terms for illegal entry into its country.
What a contradiction - demanding the U.S. respect Mexico's RIGHTS while at the same time, refusing to guarantee its rights along Mexico's border with neighboring Guatemala.
Concerning our own bargain opportunity to lawful incoming immigrants, President Teddy Roosevelt said it best, when in 1907, he said, "We should insist that if the immigrant comes here in good faith, becomes an American, and assimilates, he shall be treated on exact equality with everyone else. But this is predicated upon a person becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American."
Roosevelt said, "There can be no divided allegiance. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, is not an American at all. We have room for but one flag - the American flag. We have room for but one language - that is the English language. And we have room for but one soul loyalty - and that is loyalty to the American people."
What a bargain we offer the world - legal citizenship in our beloved United States of America!
