1. Alec Baldwin, the Answer Man
Alec Baldwin, who typically gushes over most government programs, is in favor of
reducing one particular facet of the federal government.
In fact, it turns out that the actor-activist would like to abolish a large
portion of the executive branch.

A whole host of alphabet agencies may pop to mind, like FDA, EPA, or FCC.
But on the Huffington Post Web site, Baldwin recently wrote a piece titled
"Defeating Terrorism: An Oddly Simple First Step."
What's first in Baldwin's estimation when it comes to defeating terrorism?
Abolishing the CIA.
After stating that the "[Bush] administration's war plan was merely the match
that touched a pool of gasoline laid down by more than 30 years of bad decisions
by our government," Baldwin, the answer man, provided the results of his study
group.
"There is an answer to this problem," Baldwin informed. "There is a way to
defeat terrorism while building new and better alliances in the Arab world. It
will be an enormously complex and difficult diplomatic puzzle. But the first
step might be oddly simple. Get rid of the CIA, which has outlived its
usefulness and is an embarrassment to this great country, and rebuild and reform
U.S. intelligence capabilities to fight this new type of threat. I think our
hopes must begin there."
The Left Coast Report relays that sources at the CIA indicate when it comes to
abolishing intelligence, Baldwin really knows what he's talking about.
2. Un-Mary Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey is threatening to file a lawsuit against a porn star whose name is
a bit too much like the pop star's own.
Mary Carey was among the many gubernatorial candidates who ran in California's
recall election, the same one that launched Arnold Schwarzenegger's political
career.
The porn actress is seeking to obtain a trademark for her name in connection
with audio and video recordings.
The basis of Mariah's claim, though, is that fans might confuse a Carey who's
purveying porn with a Carey who's won a Grammy.
These days, with the celebrity antics of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay
Lohan and others, it's easy to confuse the two professions.
3. Rosie O'Donnell on Insult Watch
After maligning the U.S., conservatives, Christians, Clay Aiken, and Kelly Ripa,
Rosie O'Donnell has now insulted Asians.
O'Donnell recently said on "The View" that Danny DeVito's inebriated state on a
previous show was reported across the globe.
"In China it was like, ‘Ching chong, ching-ching-chong, Danny DeVito!'"
O'Donnell uttered.
The Asian-American Journalists Association responded in a written statement and
indicated that Rosie's latest affront was "a mockery of the Chinese language
and, in effect, a perpetration of stereotypes of Asian-Americans as foreigners
or second-class citizens. The use of the distorted phrases is insulting to the
Chinese and Chinese-Americans, and gives the impression that they are a group
that is substandard to English-speaking people."
A representative for O'Donnell told the New York Post, "She's a comedian in
addition to being a talk-show co-host. I certainly hope that one day they will
be able to grasp her humor."
The Left Coast Report wonders if Rosie went to the same comedy school as Michael
Richards.
4. Madonna's PETA Pelting
Madonna used to be a supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
But now the material girl is in PETA's face. She recently went out in public in
a full-length fur coat.
The $70,000 garment reportedly used the pelts of 40 chinchillas.
PETA called on Madonna to show the kind of empathy for animals that she showed
for African children.
"We hope that Madonna's recent acts of kindness in Africa move her to extend her
compassion to animals," PETA said through a spokesperson.
The Left Coast Report says there's no word yet on whether Madonna has taken any
steps to adopt a chinchilla.
5. Star of ‘Dreamgirls' Labeled as Anti-Gay
Former "American Idol" finalist Jennifer Hudson is being lauded by the critics
for her performance in the Motown inspired movie, "Dreamgirls."
It may be that Hudson is the victim of some early Oscar rival mudslinging.
Just as Hudson was picked by the National Board of Review as one of the
Breakthrough Actresses of the Year, reports surfaced that Hudson is anti-gay
because she once told a Dallas, Texas newspaper that, according to her religious
beliefs, homosexuality is a sin.
The star responded on her MySpace page, indicating that she felt "it's [anti-gay
accusation] just mean and wrong."
"My feelings are so hurt and I can't sleep. Anybody that knows me, knows that
just ain't true. It makes me so mad that people can twist your words and say
anything they want. And there's nothing I can do about it, except to say, please
don't believe everything you read," Hudson wrote.
