It is this reporter's opinion that Patrick Buchanan, in his new book, "State of Emergency," warns us of dire consequences if we don't immediately handle our immigration problems. Buchanan says that poor and developing countries will overwhelm the United States and other Western countries in the next 50 years unless we make some changes.
Buchanan is not alone in his warnings; others are proposing immediate measures to address our emergency more far-reaching than any legislation advocated by Congress. Plans include deporting illegal aliens with criminal backgrounds, a ten-year limit on legal immigration, and the 2,000-mile security fence along the border between the U.S. and Mexico.
Steve Camarota, Director of Research at the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), says of its recent poll, "It is clear the American public wants the illegal aliens to go home." Camarota says, "Americans have not turned anti-immigrant by any means, but high immigration levels – legal and illegal – are causing a backlash as Americans are growing increasingly concerned about the legal, economic, and cultural impact of what is perceived as an unchecked stream of newcomers."
Camarota cites the poll's conclusions on what to do with illegal aliens. Most polls provide only two choices – expulsion or allowing the intruders to eventually earn legal status. The CIS poll shows a third option: strict law enforcement, which would make it practically impossible for illegals to secure employment and support themselves in the U.S., leaving them no choice but to leave the country on their own accord.

The U.S. Senate passed S. 2611 in May 2006; that immigration bill mirrors the president's plan, which calls for a guest worker program. The House of Representatives bill, H.R. 4437, passed in December 2005, takes a strict law enforcement approach, treating illegals and those who assist them as felons, with no guest worker program.
"The recent Homeland Security subcommittee report is alarming and eye-opening," says Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo from Colorado. "The report confirms our worst fears and shows that we must focus on border security now and a guest worker plan later – much later."
The report confirms the discovery of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigators that illegals have been smuggled from the Middle East to staging areas in Central and South America, then smuggled illegally into the U.S. It confirms that members of Hezbollah have already entered the U.S. across our Southwest border. Says Tancredo, "The report confirms what the American people have known for years, that our porous borders are a welcome mat for terrorists."
Another report, this from Investor's Business Daily, cites a study by Heritage Foundation economist Robert Rector, who claims the U.S. is importing poverty, mostly from Mexico; that immigrants (though just 17 percent of the population) represent a quarter of all poverty; that the highest poverty rate is for Hispanic immigrants, mostly from Mexico; and that fully one-quarter of Hispanic arrivals, most of them illegal, earn below the poverty income level.
Some 500,000 illegals flood into the United States each year, more than half from Mexico. This alone is having an enormous impact on the U.S. economy, one that will be felt for generations to come.
A feeling of national revulsion is sweeping America. It isn't partisan but rather an outcry for the sheer survival of our nation – from Americans in all parties. Several polls predict that if we don't put the brakes on illegals pouring into this country, we will have a population of 500 million by the year 2050 and a whopping 1 billion by the year 2100, which would put our population third after China and India.
There are severe demands that we now get rid of all illegal immigrants by giving them the opportunity to choose a comprehensive immigration solution or making life for illegals so miserable that they will choose to go home on their own.
Most Americans share Pat Buchanan's concern when he states again, "Illegal immigration from poor and developing countries will overwhelm the U.S. in the next fifty years unless we take drastic action now." But will Republicans or Democrats respond?
I want what I've always wanted: a strong America, a strong military, economy, and most of all, morality and ethics. Sadly, we are weaker today than we were six years ago. Our military is depleted, we are in debt to foreigners (especially the Communist Chinese) and, tragically, we are hated over much of the world. We need a new leader. Where is this knight in shining armor to lead us out of this mess? Time is running short. The American people demand action!
