SEOUL, South Korea -- South Korea is preparing for a possible visit by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice next week in the wake of North Korea's claimed nuclear test, a South Korean official told The Associated Press.
In Japan, Kyodo News agency reported Rice was also likely to visit Japan next week to discuss North Korea. The Washington-datelined story cited unidentified Japanese and U.S. officials.
U.S. officials could not immediately confirm Rice's travel plans.
The South Korean official said talks were under way between the countries but final details of the trip had yet to be confirmed. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the visit had not yet been officially announced by Washington.
