It was their worst nightmare coming true - the U.S. Senate has voted to put a conservative jurist on the Supreme Court, replacing a woman who they could depend on in a pinch to vote their way a lot of the time. And the left, which dominates the Democrat party, knows that the nightmare is just beginning.
President Bush has three more years left in his term as the nation's chief executive and he most probably will have an opportunity to name at least one more justice to the high court. And when he does, you can bet he'll nominate another conservative.
That's what he promised he'd do and he has now kept that promise twice by nominating rock-solid conservative jurists to serve on the Supreme Court.
More than anything else this is what the radical left feared most. Deprived of control of the White House and the House and Senate, their only hold on power was the control of the Supreme Court by a radical leftist majority who could be counted on to uphold the alleged right of judges to legislate from the bench.
Only in this way could they manage to put into law the kind of secular, anti-religious socialist measures the voters would never allow their legislators to impose on them.
It is for this reason, plus the Democrat Party's unrequited and maniacal lust for control of the executive and legislative branches, that the socialist left has embarked on an all-out campaign either to drive President Bush from office, or, at the very least, render him impotent and unable to put into effect his conservative policies and programs.
Among the highest on his list of priorities is the reform of an up-to-now out-of-control federal judiciary.
With the aid of a compliant and ultra leftist media they have managed to delude a majority of Americans into believing that the president is not up to the job. The result of this never-silent drum beat of unjust criticism has been a plethora of polls showing the president's job approval rating hovering in the low 40s percentile.
This makes him, and all he stands for, a target at which both the media and the Democrats are concentrating all their fire and all of their utterly dishonest rhetoric. By slandering the President and his party they hope to regain control of the Congress this year and the White House in 2008.
Should they succeed in regaining control of just the Senate they will be in a position to defeat any Bush nominee to the right of Karl Marx and their nightmare of a conservative dominated federal bench will be all but over.
In the nick of time they will have saved abortion, especially partial-birth abortion, homosexual marriage, the continuing assault on religion, especially Christianity, and the whole host of other Marxist policies to which a radical-leftist dominated court has condemned the nation.

To help bring this about, the National Socialist Democrat Abortion Party (NSDAP) has embarked on a campaign based on some of the most outrageous falsehoods and distortions of the truth ever seen since the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany collapsed.
Their Goebbels-style propaganda machine composed of an ever-willing mainstream media has devoted itself to spreading the party's fetid socialist manure across the political landscape, suffocating all truthful discourse on the real issues the nation faces.
The tragedy of this is the large-scale voting public acceptance of a whole series of absurdities endlessly repeated by the media.
Take for instance the widespread notion that the U.S. economy has gone down under President Bush when the fact is that the economy is thriving - the best performing in the world with unemployment at near-record lows, job growth booming and economic growth on a steady upward course thanks largely to the President's tax cuts.
The Democrats and the media have the gall to lie that those tax cuts are to blame for allegedly shrinking government revenues when the indisputable fact is that tax revenue has skyrocketed as a direct result of the economic boom the tax cuts created.
One of the worst falsehood is that, thanks to incessant NSDAP and the media, the claim that the president lied about Iraq having WMD is asserted by many Americans. No matter how many times that claim is proven utterly false, the NSDAP and the media Democrats continue to assert this bald-faced lie.
Perhaps it is an exercise in futility to continue to speak the truth - that every major intelligence agency in the world - even France's - believed that Saddam did indeed possess such weapons and that the president relied on the intelligence available to him at the time.
Now we have one of Saddam's top generals coming forward and stating that his boss did indeed have such weapons and had shipped them to Syria just before the U.S. invasion. Naturally the mainstream media has shown no interest in pursuing this story. After all, it demolishes the Bush-lied propaganda campaign.
One of the more egregious propaganda ploys used by the Marxist media is the incessant repetition of the falsehood that the president is conducting a campaign of "eavesdropping on Americans" when the National Security Agency operation was limited solely to monitoring calls between al-Qaida and other terrorist groups and their allies in this county.
Aware that the great majority of Americans approve of this operation, the Democrats and the media have sought to portray an effort designed to protect us from another 9/11 as one that spies on innocent Americans. They have no shame.
Then there is the matter of Social Security, now on the road to ruin and kept there by the NSDAP which refuses to pitch in and help rescue the system before it begins to collapse.
After all, solving its problems once and for all would rob the NSDAP of their favorite campaign tactic of warning that the GOP, which is determined to save it, really wants to gut it and cast the elderly out into the streets.
Finally there is the assertion that the Republicans are the party that has sired a "culture of corruption" a charge made by the party that runs some of the most corrupt cities in America (think Chicago or New Orleans). It's also the party that sells its votes to Planned Parenthood, the Trial Lawyers of America, and big labor.
Let's not forget that it's the party of President Bill Clinton who, on his last day in office, pardoned on-the-run felon Marc Rich after his wife shoveled $1 million to the Democrat party, gave $10,000 to the Clintons for their defense fund, and bought them $7,300 worth of furniture.
At his worst, Jack Abramoff never sank that low.
