One Reporter's Opinion – An 'American Hiroshima'
George Putnam
Friday, July 15, 2005
It is this reporter's opinion that the attacks on Madrid and London are merely warm-ups to al-Qaida's plans for what is described as a possible "American Hiroshima."

Story Continues Below

Congressman Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., a staunch critic of our government's lax immigration and border enforcement policies, has requested a briefing from the Justice Department on information that it has plans for a nuclear attack on the United States by al-Qaida terrorists. Tancredo is greatly alarmed by the report and demands the nation's law enforcement authorities reveal classified or unclassified reports.

According to captured terrorist documents, the "American Hiroshima" calls for the multiple detonation of nuclear weapons already in the possession of Osama bin Laden's operatives currently inside the U.S. The agents and arms have been smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border with the help of the MS-13 street gang (Mara Salvatrucha, which is now international) and other organized crime groups. The attacks are designed to kill at least 4 million Americans.

According to informants, al-Qaida has obtained at least 40 nuclear weapons from the former Soviet Union. They includes suitcase nukes, nuclear mines, artillery shells and even missile warheads. Captured documents indicate that al-Qaida plans to assemble its own nuclear weapons with fissile material purchased on the black market. Most disturbing is that at least some of these weapons have been smuggled into the U.S. for use in the planned "American Hiroshima."

Plans for a devastating nuclear attack on the U.S. have been under development for more than a decade - a final deadly blow to defeat the U.S., which is seen by al-Qaida as the "Great Satan."

Paul L. Williams, a former FBI consultant, tells of the plan in his upcoming book, "Al Qaeda Connection: International Terrorism, Organized Crime, And the Coming Apocalypse." According to Williams, former CIA Director George Tenet informed George W. Bush one month after the 9/11 attacks that at least two suitcase nukes had reached al-Qaida operatives in the U.S. This caused Bush to order his national security team to give nuclear terrorism priority over every other threat to America.

But Bush failed to translate this into securing the U.S.-Mexico border, through which the nuclear weapons and al-Qaida operatives are believed to have passed with the help of the MS-13 smugglers. Reportedly, Bush did order the building of underground bunkers away from major metropolitan areas to be used by federal government managers following an attack.

One suitcase, according to Paul Williams, bore the serial number 9999 and the Russian manufacturing date, 1988. Each suitcase weighs between 110 and 175 pounds and contains enough plutonium and uranium to produce an explosive yield in excess of two kilotons. The plutonium and uranium are kept in separate compartments and shockingly, these are linked to a triggering mechanism that can be activated by a clock or a call from a cell phone.

Williams, in his book, says that bin Laden has nearly unlimited funds to spend on his nuclear terrorism plan because he has remained in control of the Afghanistan-produced heroin industry. And al-Qaida has developed close relations with the Albanian mafia, which controls the smuggling and sale of heroin throughout Europe and the U.S.

Some of that money is used to pay off the notorious MS-13 street gang – between $30,000 aand 50,000 for each agent smuggled into the U.S. from Mexico. These agents of doom are provided with phony identification – most often bogus matricula consular ID cards indistinguishable from Mexico's official ID, accepted in the U.S. to open bank accounts and driver's licenses.

These devastating reports concerning the life-or-death security of our nation further challenge the Bush administration's unwillingness to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. And the possibility of an "American Hiroshima" obviate that at this point an attempt to attack America at home is just a matter of when.

As we speak, Congressman Tancredo awaits Justice Department information on plans for a nuclear attack on the U.S. by al-Qaida. Thanks to Congressman Tancredo, Paul Williams and other patriots for again alerting the president and Congress to another devastating terrorist incursion on our own soil.
