After announcing several months ago that he intended to challenge pro-abortion Rhode Island Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, Rep. Jim Langevin, a pro-life Democrat, decided last month against making the run - despite the fact that he was a favorite to win.
Langevin says he became pro-life after a life-altering experience. When he was sixteen years old, he was wounded by a gunshot and has been in a wheelchair ever since.

He says now that the episode forced him to appreciate "how precious life is."
So what prompted Langevin to abandon his Chafee challenge?
Influential Democrats, upset over his pro-life stand, pulled the rug out from under his campaign.
Absolutely furious that the Democratic Party might field a pro-life candidate, NARAL, NOW, and the Hollywood Left all complained about Langevin.
"Political compromise is not the prescription
for defending the party's values," ex-NARAL head
Kate Michelman groused, before organizing a fundraiser for Langevin's pro-abortion Democratic primary opponent.
Apparently the Democratic Party's core constituencies would rather lose elections that moderate their stance on abortion.
