NEWPORT, Ky. -- U.S. Senator Joe Biden says if Democrats are to retake the White House and Congress, they must be more active in and win states like Kentucky.
The Delaware Democrat is feeling out a possible 2008 presidential run. He used northern Kentucky as a testing ground Saturday in two fund-raisers for the state Democratic Party.
Democrats have not shown much political heft in Northern Kentucky in the past several years. GOP candidates often dominate local elections, and national party figures, particularly during election years, frequently use the area to raise money and campaign for Republican candidates.
Biden says the Democrats are not conceding any states as both parties begin planning for the 2006 midterm congressional elections and the 2008 presidential race.
Biden's stop drew former U.S. Sen. Wendell Ford, Kentucky House Speaker Jody Richards, state Attorney General Greg Stumbo, former Lieutenant Governor and possible 2007 gubernatorial candidate Steve Henry and state Treasurer Jonathan Miller.
