  In a three-way contest with the Bush-Cheney ticket, the Kerry-Edwards ticket, and the Nader-Camejo ticket, the results were Bush-Cheney 52%, Kerry-Edwards 42%, Nader-Camejo 1%, with 5% undecided, and a margin of error of +/- 3%.

“Ohio is leaning to the President at this time,” said David E. Johnson, CEO and Co-founder of Strategic Vision, LLC, “However, Kerry picked up support from our previous poll and this must be a hopeful sign to his campaign with its new message.”

The poll gave President Bush an approval rating of 51%. On his handling of the economy, it gave him a 48% approval rating. On the war in Iraq, it gave the President a 53% approval rating.

“The President’s approval remains right at 50%,” said Johnson. “Fifty percent or higher is where he needs to be to win this state and re-election. The economy continues to be his weak spot.”

When asked if they felt the country was going in the right direction or the wrong direction, 47% said right, 44% said wrong, and 9% were undecided.

“This number is still a danger number for the President, said Johnson, “An incumbent wants that number over 50% to feel secure. This number gives Kerry an opening to build upon the uncertainty and fears of voters but he must at the same time offer hope. Kerry has yet to find the key to unlock this to his benefit and the clock is ticking. The upcoming debates are his last chance.”

The poll showed that John Kerry’s favorable numbers were at 38%, with 40% unfavorable and 22% undecided. John Edwards scored higher than his running mate in this category. Edwards’ favorable numbers were 46%, with 27% unfavorable and 27% undecided. Vice President Cheney’s favorable rating stood at 48%, with 45% unfavorable and 7% undecided.

“Kerry’s problem is that people don’t like him and just hoping that they like the President less then him is not a winning strategy,” said Johnson, “He must come across as likeable in the debates and display passion.”

When asked who was better qualified to be president, Cheney or Edwards, respondents selected Cheney with 47%, Edwards 40%, and 13% undecided.
