U.N.'s Oil-for-Terror Program
Chuck Noe, NewsMax.com
Tuesday, July 20, 2004
New evidence that U.N. has gone from useless to dangerous: American officials say millions of dollars Saddam Hussein stole from the disastrous oil-for-food program are funding the terrorism that plagues Iraq.

Story Continues Below

“U.S. intelligence officials and congressional investigators said last night that the ‘oil-for-insurgency link’ has been recently unearthed in the numerous probes now under way into the giant U.N. humanitarian program, in which Saddam is believed to have pocketed $10.1 billion through oil smuggling and kickbacks from suppliers,” the New York Post reported Monday.

“Congressional investigators have uncovered hundreds of documents in recent weeks that detail how top officials in Saddam's regime directed companies bidding on contracts for oil or humanitarian goods to pay ‘after-sales fees’ — or kickbacks — of up to 10 percent of each contract.”

The documents show that the kickbacks were funneled into Saddam’s secret bank accounts abroad, including Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Belarus.

The oil-for-food scandal remains one of the most underreported stories of the year, aside from a few exceptions such as the Post, Fox News Channel and NewsMax. The media establishment has shown great interest in anything that makes the United States in general or the Bush administration in particular look bad, but continues to cover for its favorite corruption-riddled globalist outfit.

As NewsMax has revealed, United Nations ignored repeated warnings that could have prevented the massive embezzlement.

Among other reports we have offered on the oil-for-food scandal:

  • Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s attempt to avoid oversight.

  • The shocking transparency of the fraud as U.N. bureaucrats refused to do anything to stop it.

  • Why the French weasels loved Saddam so much.

  • Saddam’s shell game also included Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg and Panama.

  • Paul Bremer’s surprising attempt to abet U.N..

  • Madeleine Albright’s not-so-surprising attempt to abet U.N..

  • The connection to Marc Rich.

  • U.N.'s refusal to protect whistle-blowers.

  • U.N.’s long string of similar outrages.

  • U.N.’s attempt to quash a new book detailing these scandals.

Yet another report Monday offered further proof of U.N.’s extreme incompetence and malign neglect. Although Annan is from Africa, Amnesty International issued a report highlighting his failure to do anything to stop Arab militiamen from raping and torturing the black women and children of Sudan.

But then, the genocide in Rwanda shows that Annan has never had any will to stop mass murder on his native continent.

If Annan and his gang of luxuriously ensconced and taxpayer-supported bureaucrats won’t take action against such atrocities in Africa, it’s clearer than ever they won’t do anything about Iraq either. How shameful that these parasites are more interested in protecting Saddam than the people of the Third World.
