COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Focus on the Family Senior Policy Analyst for Bioethics Carrie Gordon Earll issued the following statement today in response to U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton's order declaring the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 as unenforceable in regard to Planned Parenthood clinics:
"It is of little surprise that Judge Hamilton issued a permanent injunction against the ban on partial-birth abortion. Opponents of this violent and brutal assault on innocent human life have known from the beginning that this would be a long and drawn-out legal battle requiring time, energy and, above all, endurance. Rulings from courts in New York and Nebraska are pending, and we remain cautiously hopeful that at least one of these jurisdictions may yield a different finding.
"We applaud the U.S. Justice Department for its diligent defense of the federal ban on partial-birth abortion, which has included a considerable body of literature on the reality of abortion entered into court records."
