Is John Edwards’ Wife Obese by Choice?
Dan Frisa
Monday, Oct. 18, 2004
What if Bob Schieffer had asked the president if, in his opinion, people were obese by choice?

And what if the president had paused for a dramatic moment and in a calm, deliberate – even caring – voice responded he was sure that John Edwards’ wife was not obese by choice. That he knew John and their kids must be proud of Elizabeth, who was open and candid about her obesity because that’s who she was, that it defined her very life.

After all, she can’t help being so very overweight; she was born that way.

Can you imagine the outrage that would have erupted?

The left-wing media would be all over it, 24/7, nonstop.

It’s hard to imagine whether the president would even be able to survive the public outcry.

Instead, we now have Kerry, Edwards, Elizabeth Edwards and Mary Beth Cahill all continuing to pile on Mary Cheney in a loathsome and despicable display.

Edwards used the line in the vice presidential debate.

Kerry used the line in the last presidential debate.

Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry’s campaign manager on loan from Ted Kennedy’s staff, said it was “fair game” to make reference to Cheney’s daughter.

Elizabeth Edwards said she couldn’t understand the Cheneys’ reaction, but said that perhaps they were “ashamed” of their daughter. Who the heck is she? What a cretin!

This from the party that holds itself out as “caring and compassionate.”

Yeah, right!

What’s most troubling is that these were premeditated, deliberate attacks concocted in some sick, bizarre plan to inflict political damage to the Bush-Cheney ticket at the expense of an innocent person who had not injected herself into the public arena.

These lowlifes miscalculated on two counts.

First, their intent to somehow drive either religious or conservative supporters from the ticket, assuming that was their aim, based on the vice president’s daughter was plain wrong and dumb. It did nothing of the sort.

Second, by exposing their craven willingness to stoop to the lowest of lows in hopes of garnering votes at any cost caused a backlash that is still reverberating and whose effect likely won’t be fully reflected until polls are released next week.

People are still talking about this; the outrage continues to make the “water cooler” rounds. This is in spite of the fact that the left-wing media are doing everything in their power to help ameliorate the damage.

John Kerry has always come across as a soulless slug with not an ounce of character to his name.

Now he’s proven it for all to see.

And so have the lawyers Edwards, John and “Tiny” both.
