PYONGYANG, North Korea -- North Korea's state-run news agency Friday accused the United States of provocation for deploying Patriot missiles in South Korea.
KCNA warned the U.S. action would complicate efforts to resolve the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the BBC reported.
"The U.S. arms build-up in South Korea is creating a stumbling block to resolving the nuclear problem," KCNA said.
"As long as the United States does not give up its hostile policy towards the DPRK (North Korea), we will feel justified in our stance of keeping and strengthening our nuclear deterrent force."
The current crisis was triggered by Pyongyang's decision to abandon its promise not to pursue a nuclear program and its ejection of U.N. observers. Talks last month involving the United States, North and South Korea, Japan, China and Russia in Beijing failed to resolve the issue. The North is demanding a non-aggression pact with the United States as well as food and energy aid in exchange for abandoning its nuclear ambitions.
The U.S. Patriot installation was part of an $11 billion plan to shore up U.S. defenses in the region. It was completed Tuesday.
