'Tales' Exposes Hollywood's Leftist Agenda
Christopher Ruddy
Friday, July 18, 2003
From "The Ziegfield Follies" to "Terminator 3," Hollywood has been the largest influence on American culture and values for nearly a century.

Though early Hollywood prided itself on standing up for patriotism, morality and individual responsibility, that time is long past and movies have increasingly become a running sewer. Hollywood's extreme leftism means that it hates the very culture and nation that has made it Babylon the Great.

James Hirsen’s new book, "Tales from the Left Coast: True Stories of Hollywood Stars and Their Outrageous Politics," provides a badly needed service by documenting the sorry state of Tinseltown today.

Few in the media want to expose Hollywood because they fear exposing the stars and their hypocritical politics. Because of our celebrity-driven culture, the media need these stars for interviews and exclusives.

But Jim Hirsen has no conflict of interest. He certainly has no fears.

In "Tales from the Left Coast," Hirsen provides scores of examples of Tinseltown’s depravity and most of the entertainment industry’s single-minded embrace of political correctness, hypocritical environmental lunacy and cockamamie leftist causes.

Case in point is Hollywood’s love affair with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. The human rights abuser is feted, though he has little concern for any of the pet causes that make Tinseltown shake. Why does Hollywood love Castro? Simple: He hates America and has for decades given us the finger.

But Hollywood is not something to be scoffed at or dismissed.

As Hirsen shows, these stars and executives and writers have great power. And they use it against those they don’t like: Republicans, Christians, anyone who opposes their wacko agenda.

Hirsen reveals just how the new McCarthyism works, how conservatives are blacklisted in Hollywood. A friend told me that Tom Selleck, who used to proudly appear in ads for National Review, won’t even identify himself as a conservative.

Why? After Selleck’s run-in with Rosie O’Donnell and his support for gun rights, he saw the number of jobs offered him plunge. No matter that he is a draw. Hollywood does care about profits, but it cares even more about its leftist agenda.

"Tales from the Left Coast" makes it clear that the great majority of Hollywood insiders are using their talent, money and status to push a radical leftist agenda on America – despite their overwhelming ignorance of the facts.

Timely and refreshing, "Tales from the Left Coast" provides an entertaining and insightful perspective on why America has been moving so far to the left in recent decades. The book is catching fire. In just a week it hit the New York Times’ and Amazon’s best-seller lists.

It could even pave the way for the equivalent of Fox News Channel for the movie studios, one that promotes, rather than denigrates, American values.
