One Reporter's Opinion: LAMM-basting for the Common Good
George Putnam

It is this reporter's opinion that we have all but
forgotten the word "assimilate." Webster's Dictionary tells
us that to assimilate is to absorb and incorporate into
one's thinking, to absorb groups of different cultures into
the main cultural body, to be absorbed and incorporated.
Assimilation is the cultural absorption of a minority group
into the main cultural body. Fat chance, Mr. Webster!
The Congress and the administration those entrusted with
our immigration policies have all but ignored the
illegal-alien invasion of the U.S. and the flat-out
violation of our sovereignty. There are exceptions:
Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado, Congressman J.D.
Hayworth of Arizona, a few outspoken patriots, who dare the
wrath of fellow lawmakers by speaking out.
Then there are brilliant men like college professor Victor
Hansen Davis, who in his latest book, "Mexifornia,"
explains how immigration both legal and illegal is
destroying the entire state of California, how it will
march across the country until it destroys all vestiges of
the American dream.
Then there are citizens like you and me, who echo the words
of former Colorado Gov. Richard Lamm, who shout against the
destruction of our beloved nation. Recently my good friend
Frosty Wooldridge, world traveler and patriot, called to my
attention a speech by the Colorado governor in which he
outlined how one would go about destroying America.
"Here's how they do it," Lamm said. "Turn America into a
bilingual or multilingual and bicultural country. History
shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and
antagonism of two or more competing languages and
cultures." Lamm went on: "Invent multiculturalism,
encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture, impose
a belief that all cultures are equal that there are no
cultural differences. We could make the U.S. an Hispanic
Quebec. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than
unity."
Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their
own language and culture, replace the melting-pot metaphor
with the salad-bowl metaphor -- reinforce differences
rather than emphasizing similarities."
The governor didn't stop there. "Toward destruction, we
should make our fastest-growing demographic group the very
least educated."
"Add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and
antagonistic to our population. Another way we're
destroying America: Get the big foundations and businesses
to give these efforts lots of money. Invest in ethnic
identity and establish the cult of 'victimology.' Get the
minorities to think their lack of success is the fault of
the majority."
The good governor adds to his warning about the downfall of
America, "to include dual citizenship and divided loyalties
celebrate diversity over unity."
Lamm cites the ancient Greeks: "The Greeks believed they
belonged to the same race, possessed a common language and
literature, worshipped the same gods, yet these bonds were
not strong enough to overcome two factors local
patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured
political divisions. Greece fell because it put the
emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'unum.'"
And then, facetiously, in the last moments of his speech,
Gov. Lamm stated: "Censor books like Victor Hansen Davis'
'Mexifornia' because his book is dangerous. It exposes the
plan to destroy America ... if you feel America
deserves to be destroyed, DON'T READ THE BOOK."
As one listens to the governor, we are reminded of George
Orwell's book "1984" and the three slogans engraved in the
Ministry of Truth building: "War is Peace," "Freedom is
Slavery" and "Ignorance is Strength." In his warning to
America, Gov. Lamm reminds us of another warning, coming as
it did from my good friend Ezra Taft Benson:
From bondage to spiritual faith
From spiritual faith to courage
From courage to freedom
From freedom to abundance
From abundance to selfishness
From selfishness to complacency
From complacency to apathy
From apathy to fear
From fear to dependency
From dependency to bondage.
What more is there to say?
