Gray Skies Clear Up

LOS ANGELES – Game. Set. Match.

Mario Cuomo in New York. Ann Richards in Texas. Gray Davis in California.

The final leg in the defeat of the Democrat trifecta fell and completes the total and utter repudiation of the last of the big-state ultra-liberal demagogues, this time in the Golden State Tuesday by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the recall election.

There were so many losers, it’s hard to know where to begin, so let’s start with former President Bill Clinton, who has yet again demonstrated that his endorsement is consistently tantamount to a political kiss of death, which shouldn’t be a surprise given his consistent, unsuccessful efforts to elect Democrats.

After all, Slick Willie never even received 50 percent of the vote himself in either of his two elections for president, yet there is still the incessant media lauding of him as the greatest politician in America’s history.

Yeah, right.

Obviously, Gray Davis was the object of the electorate’s scorn, due to his cynical and reprehensible conduct during his re-election last year wherein he trashed former L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan, helping to defeat him in the Republican primary – after which he slimed Republican Bill Simon in the 2002 general election.

Davis also paid for his ill-conceived decisions to grant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens and to impose a tripling of the automobile tax shortly before the election.

But he was also held to account for his transparent and greedy con game of squeezing campaign contributions from public employee unions in return for massive government giveaways.

The traditional Democrat game of forcing taxpayers to pay for their selfish efforts to stay in power has backfired once again.

Of course, both the Left Angeles Times and the New York Slimes – along with their elitist sycophant followers – were smacked right in the face for their collective and overtly partisan manufacturing of the news designed to unfairly undercut Schwarzenegger in favor of their beloved Davis.

No wonder they screamed “the recall is undemocratic” and “the recall is a circus” mantras in a feeble attempt to undermine the credibility of what turned out to be a record-setting exercise in voter participation.

One of the biggest losers – otherwise having nothing whatsoever to do with the recall, per se – is that perennial loser and bottom-feeder Bob Mulholland, whose claim to fame is his history of foisting slime and sleaze on Republicans each election. Tuesday night he threatened to spearhead a recall of Arnold if all of the state’s problems aren’t solved in 100 days; bring it on, Dirt Bag Bob!

This smarmy creep orchestrated the L.A. Times’ “groping” smear campaign, which the paper purposely held to run last Thursday in the hopes of inflicting a mortal blow at the last minute, leaving no time for Arnold to respond. For once, the people saw through the media’s blatantly political excuse for journalism.

Another big loser was phony feminist Gloria Allred, the media-thirsty attorney who clammed up during the disclosure of the credible Bill Clinton rape and assault saga, yet showed her true colors when she paraded a liar before the cameras on the day before the election, only to have two eye witnesses immediately come forward to convincingly dispute the trumped-up charge. She should be “all red” from embarrassment, but will undoubtedly keep on seeking even more airtime from her liberal media comrades.

And let’s not forget the obnoxious and over-the-top Democrat state chairman, Sen. Art Torres, who single-handedly turned off nearly as many Californians as Gray Davis himself, trying to peddle the least believable spin and drivel, even by Left Coast left-wing standards.

All in all, the results of the recall demonstrated a total rejection of the Left’s “screw the people” approach to politics, as Schwarzenegger garnered even more votes in the replacement election than Davis was able to muster (against himself) on the recall ballot.

Will the Left learn?

No way, because they have nothing else going for them. They raise taxes and lie about it. They give away excessive benefits and lie about it. They pander to minorities and lie about it. And they ferociously spend more than is available and lie about that, too, because they know that were they ever to be brave enough to actually tell the truth, they wouldn’t stand a chance of winning election; so they lie as they struggle to hang on to the last shreds of power upon which they cling.

The bottom line is that California’s voters delivered an astounding defeat to one of the last remaining bastions of the liberal Democrat machine, which has resulted in at least one happy fact:

Gray skies really have cleared up in California.
