Cheney: Iraq Part of War on Terrorism Wes Vernon, NewsMax.comARLINGTON, Va. – Vice President Dick Cheney told a conservative audience Thursday that, as President Bush leads the nation in a time of danger and a battle against terrorists, the United States would emerge victorious. "But let there by no doubt. We will prevail," the vice president proclaimed to thunderous applause. Keynoting the the annual three-day meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference (C-PAC), Cheney said he stood beside "a great president" whom he likened to former President Ronald Reagan when it came to facing down threats to world peace. Reagan turned the tide and carried the day, the vice president said, and George W. Bush will do likewise. 'Crucial to Winning the War on Terror' "We will not permit a brutal dictator with ties to terror and a record of reckless aggression to dominate the Middle East and threaten the United States of America," he said. "Confronting the threat posed by Iraq is not a distraction from the war on terror; it is absolute crucial to winning the war on terror. "Whatever action is required, whenever action is necessary we will defend the freedom and the security of the American people." One of Cheney's biggest applause lines came when he reiterated President Bush's State of the Union remarks Tuesday night declaring the United States would "not depend on others" in guarding the safety of Americans. President Bush "seeks to guard our nation at a time of fearsome danger" to civilization itself, but the administration is prepared for the challenge, the vice president said. Cheney emphasized the president's warning that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein "has no intention" of disarming.
The vice president also received applause when he repeated Bush's call to end partial-birth abortion and human cloning.
