The NEA: Let the Indoctrination Begin!
Laura Ingraham
Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002

The one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks is only weeks away, and the National Education Association is all revved up and ready to help public school teachers indoctrinate malleable young minds. The NEA website is linking to 100 "lesson plans" to help teachers navigate students through complex post-Sept. 11 world.

One teaching strategy called "Tolerance in Times of Trial" (grades 6 through 12) urges teachers to "ask students to brainstorm a list of descriptors that come to mind when they hear the word 'terrorist'" and to "examine how the media portrays people of Arab descent, through an analysis of movies like The Siege, True Lies."

Yet another NEA-sanctioned teaching strategy has an undeniably anti-American tone, encouraging students to "discuss instances of American intolerance" in order that we may avoid "repeating terrible mistakes." (But remember, kiddies, don't be too judgmental of Islam in discussing the 9-11 attacks!)

It's no secret that Democrats get gobs of money from teachers unions like the NEA. The NEA adores New York Senators Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars in political contributions. What would the surviving spouses of 9-11 victims (many of whom live in New York) think if their children were being schooled in the moral relativism pushed in the lesson plans mentioned above?

When a disturbing percentage of our high school students don't know basic American history and lack important writing skills, the NEA wants more sensitivity/diversity/tolerance training.

Republicans coast to coast should keep this issue alive by demanding that Democrats who get NEA money denounce any of the lesson plans that highlight perceived American "injustices" while minimizing the connection between terrorism and radical Islam.

Dems have become a broken record in demonizing "Big Oil" and "Big Pharmaceutical Companies," but they have no problem getting their pockets lined by Big Teachers Unions that blame America first.

Editor's note:
Liberals’ attacks on America - in their own words!
