WASHINGTON – FBI agents investigating last year's deadly anthrax attacks returned Thursday to a former Army scientist's apartment near Fort Detrick, Md., in a new search for evidence, FBI officials said.
Government officials confirmed Thursday that Steven J. Hatfill, who was employed as an Army researcher at Fort Detrick, was under investigation. Hatfill's apartment had been searched previously on June 25.
Other locations have been searched as well. The government official confirmed that Hatfill had been a "person of interest" in the investigation earlier this year.
FBI Director Robert Mueller would not comment on the latest search. The said only that the bureau was "making progress."
