1. FBI Investigates NewsMax Story

Christopher Ruddy reports this week:

"When I wrote 'Pilot's Tale of March 29,' I was surprised how quickly I received a call from a special agent of the FBI.

"The bureau had read my story and wanted to speak to the anonymous pilot who was the source of my account about the strange activities on a March 29 flight from Newark to Florida.

"With the pilot's OK, I put him in contact with the FBI.

"Apparently the incident I described on the plane has not been an isolated one.

"I was impressed by the FBI's seriousness and handling of this. The days of the Clinton-Freeh FBI may be drawing to a close."

2. Sky Marshals Disarmed of Nail Clippers

The pilot who was the source of Chris Ruddy's "Pilot's Tale of March 29" was asked by Ruddy if he has noted any significant increase in sky marshals, who are eventually to be on every U.S. flight.

The pilot said he knows of only two flights since 9-11 that have included sky marshals. He said in both cases the plane had more than one marshal.

On one flight, a marshal told him an incredible story. The marshal said he cleared the X-ray area with some trouble.

Screeners had no problem with his firearm because he had proper credentials to carry as a sky marshal. But when screeners discovered his nail clipper in his carry-on baggage they made a stink.

Because "nail clippers" are an item prohibited on planes, the screeners insisted they had to be confiscated. The sky marshal had to part with his nail clippers as he went merrily to the gate carrying a loaded gun.

Didn't Dickens once remark that the law can be an "ass"?

3. Latest on Reagan's Health

Last weekend Nancy Reagan and daughter Patti attended a street party fundraiser in Los Angeles that helped raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and Cures Now, a group that hopes to cure disease through stem cell research.

Asked by a reporter about the condition of her husband, Nancy Reagan said he was in "good" condition.

Michael Reagan tells NewsMax his father is in good physical condition, noting that he still has rosy cheeks and a mop of hair darker than most men 30 years younger. Alzheimer's has taken its toll on his father's mind, however. Sadly, President Reagan is currently bedridden and cannot walk.

4. Rumsfeld Gets His NewsMax Magazine

Several weeks ago NewsMax received a request from the office of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for several copies of a recent edition of NewsMax magazine entitled "Thinking Victory" - with Secretary Rumsfeld featured on the cover.

Of course we were glad to comply, and quickly mailed off several copies.

But with the U.S. mail in these post-anthrax days being problematic, Secretary Rumsfeld never got his magazine. His office called again and this time we quickly FedExed off several copies to the Pentagon.

You can check out the Rumsfeld cover and find out more info on NewsMax magazine by Clicking Here.

5. Reserve Units Being Called Up

NewsMax has been getting scattered reports that reserve military units in all branches are being called up around the country. Some soldiers say they are being told, "We're going to war." That may be the sentiment rather than the official line.

For example, a day after President Bush laid out his domestic homeland defense strategy this past week, Alabama's governor activated an Army National Guard tank battalion unit.

Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman explained the call-up of the elite 300-member tank unit, with its contingent of M1A1 Abrams tanks, as part of an effort to "serve in the homeland defense role within the U.S."

Siegelman also called out another unit, this time more than 200 guardsmen from Special Forces units.

The soldiers have been told this not a short-term call-up. Deployments will last one or two years, according to Lt. Col. Robert Horton, the spokesman for the Alabama Guard.

Typically, governors call out the National Guard at the request of the Pentagon.

Such call-ups are apparently taking place around the country, if reports NewsMax has been receiving are correct.

We doubt that the Pentagon expects to use M1 Abrams tanks and Special Forces in American cities. On to Iraq ...

6. Senator on Cheney's Health

A Republican senator tells NewsMax that Dick Cheney's health is not great and he will definitely not be running as vice president in 2004.

The senator said that when Cheney jets across the country, he spends almost all the time sleeping or resting.

Who is the latest top dog to replace Cheney? Capitol Hill buzz says Tennessee Sen. Bill Frist is the front-runner.

7. Morris: Hillary Vowed Never to Be Bill's Puppet

In a blockbuster new tape – "Off the Record with Dick Morris" – just released by NewsMax, the one-time confidant of Bill and Hillary Clinton holds little back.

Morris has known the Clintons for decades and has accumulated their secrets the way Bill accumulated girlfriends.

Morris says he has little doubt that Hillary will run for president.

He reveals that, in fact, Hillary considered succeeding Bill as governor of Arkansas.

Morris says that in 1990, Clinton thought about not running for re-election as governor and wanted to focus on running for president. Morris had two polls conducted to see if Hillary could win.

The polls came back negative. Hillary did not have the support to win.

Morris discovered in the polling that Arkansas voters would have perceived Hillary as a puppet of her husband, who would secretly run the state as he campaigned around the country.

Morris said Hillary became angry upon hearing this and vowed she would do everything in her power to make sure the public did not perceive of her as subservient to her husband.
