Something Terribly Wrong in the U.N.
Col. Stanislav Lunev
Friday, July 19, 2002

Something really wrong is going on within the United Nations, which, according to its charter, is supposed to resolve disputes between nations and support the economic development of poor nations. In other words, the U.N. is mandated to advance the cause of world peace, neutralize present and potential conflicts, and help poor nations reach the level of the developed nations' economic and social advantages.

Recent reports about the U.N.'s current activity, however, are very strange and are raising many questions about the real nature and policies of this organization. According to press reports, a U.N-financed sex education manual for teens that promotes abortion, homosexuality and even sex with animals has not been withdrawn in Latin American nations as UNICEF insists it has.

This booklet, circulated among delegates at a recent U.N. Child Summit in New York as evidence that the world body is doing something wrong, is still being used throughout Mexico. A similar book, financed by the U.N. Fund for Population Activities, is being used throughout Nicaragua and in some other countries as well.

More than 180 countries met for the conference, with hopes of adopting a document titled "A World Fit for Children," which purports to establish worldwide standards for promoting kids' health, education, and protection from abuse and HIV and AIDS.

But as is so often the case, "the children" are merely a prop to disguise the conference's real agenda, which has more to do with legitimizing abortion, homosexual rights and bestiality than it has with protecting kids.

If we lived in a harmonious world without conflicts and wars, it would be understandable that the U.N. would use American and other donors' money for the promotion of U.N. officials' peculiar sexual ideas. Our world is very far from any kind of harmony, however, and it looks as if the U.N. should be solely occupied with fulfilling its missions under the charter.

Who else but this international body should be dealing with the fight against international terrorism, which threatens the entire world and is not limited to deadly attacks against the U.S. and other Western nations? The U.N. is promoting abortion, homosexuality and bestiality at a time when Americans and our friends and allies carry the major burden in this war, which U.N. and its leaders practically ignore.

There is no doubt that it is the U.N. that should be working to stop the continuous conflict in the Middle East that has taken many hundreds of lives and could take even more in the near future. However, it is obvious that the U.N. leadership is totally pro-Palestinian and avoids any form of direct involvement in resolving the conflict.

Moreover, the U.N.'s leaders are using their official positions and personal contacts with Middle Eastern politicians to increase tension in the region. The U.N.'s repeated condemnations of Israel with barely a harsh word for the Palestinian terrorists are inexcusable.

Who else but this international body must take steps to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction? However, as the press has reported, U.N. leaders are expected to take until the end of this year to finalize a tough treaty requiring governments to better protect nuclear materials from falling into the hands of bomb-making terrorists.

It's very difficult to predict what could happen with this treaty, because U.N. officials have expressed hope for an agreement with Washington and Moscow to give the International Atomic Energy Agency responsibility for verifying reductions in the U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals.

However, it's very easy to conclude that if the U.N. is to be in charge of this issue, the accountability of nuclear weapons will be extremely questionable.

Such examples could continue for many pages, but there is no doubt that in the list of many strange organizations functioning in America, the U.N. is near the top of the heap. This organization exists on funds from the international community, but it is not working for the good of this community.

Despite some of the good the U.N. has done over the last several decades, it is time for the U.S. to rethink its level of participation in this organization, whose leaders are ignoring the real problems and using international funds and resources for promoting principles and ideas that cannot be considered common values.
