1) Congressman: 1 in 10 Chance Congress Will Be Wiped Out
A senior Republican lawmaker told NewsMax that members of Congress are not oblivious to a major terrorist attack using a weapon of mass destruction against the Capitol.
Lawmakers have been told that the chance of most if not all of Congress being killed is 1 in 10, the congressman said.
The congressman said lawmakers are very aware of the threat and are keeping days in Washington to an absolute minimum.
"If you look at this session, it is the shortest number of days we've been in session in decades," he said, adding, "The idea is to get our work done and get out of town."
The congressman's remarks jibe with recent concerns by federal officials about a mass-destruction attack in Washington. This week, more than 25,000 gas masks, mainly for Congress and Capitol Hill aides, began arriving.
The masks could be used if a chemical attack is made upon Washington.
2) China 'Invading' With Immigrants
The Clinton administration opened the immigration doors so wide to the Chinese, the number of Chinese entering the country is tantamount to an invasion.
A federal source who looked at the number of visas for Chinese nationals discovered the worrisome trend.
At the time Clinton became president, some 170,000 visas were granted to Chinese nationals. By Clinton's last year in office, visas to Chinese nationals had spiraled to about 500,000 a year, a number that continues today.
The source said that while the visas are not for new immigrants, the INS never bothered to see if the visas had been adhered to and if the visa holders had ever returned to China.
3) Reagan Admitted 'Hundreds of POWs' Left Behind in Vietnam, Still Alive
A top aide to President Reagan who is today a member of Congress told NewsMax that Reagan admitted to him that hundreds of American POWs were left behind in Vietnam and were still alive as late as 1988.
The former Reagan aide recounted to NewsMax his last private meeting with the president in the Oval Office.
When the aide said he was concerned about the possibility that American GIs were left behind after the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam, Reagan responded: "We know that there are hundreds of POWs still alive. But these guys are leading very different lives, they have local wives, and we just don't want to shed light on them at this point."
The former aide said he was shocked by Reagan's comments, and it was clear to him that Reagan had been snookered by aides who had convinced him that for some reason the POWs didn't want to return to the U.S.
The congressman said it is widely believed that Vietnam keeps dozens, if not hundreds, of American POWs as leverage to insure that the U.S. lives up to pledges it made.
At the conclusion of the war in Vietnam, the U.S. agreed to pay billions in aid to North Vietnam to rebuild. The money was never paid because Vietnam re-started hostilities, but the Vietnamese still have made claim to the money.
4) Journalist: Bin Laden in Pakistan
A veteran journalist who has visited Pakistan since Sept. 11 says that it is well-known that Osama bin Laden is alive and well and living in western Pakistan.
Bin Laden is living in the area of Peshwar, he said.
So, why haven't the Pakistanis swooped in to capture him?
Our journalist friend said a senior member of Pakistan's diplomatic corps says that Pakistan's ISI, its version of the CIA, has many Islamic fundamentalists, who have little interest in helping America.
He also said the official "order" to all Pakistani agencies is that "the Americans should be given the minimal cooperation necessary."
The diplomat offers another good reason Pakistan doesn't want bin Laden captured: If he's gone, so are the Americans, their interest in the region, and their money.
