Beware of Yemenis Carrying Thermos Bottles
CNSNews.com
Wednesday, June 12, 2002
If this weren't a news report, it could be mistaken for a movie plot: CBS News reports that U.S. officials are under orders to search all Yemeni nationals who may be moving in and out of the United States with bombs disguised as thermos bottles.

The security alert involves all points of entry - airports, ports, and other border crossings. According to CBS, the Immigration and Naturalization Service issued the alert about Yemeni travelers last Thursday.

Agents were told to look for thermos bottles, night vision goggles, and large amounts of cash, the report said. The alert followed a raid on an apartment somewhere in the northeastern United States where a group of Yemenis were living.

The USS Cole was bombed in the Yemeni port of Aden in October 2000, and al-Qaeda operatives are believed to have roots in that Arab nation.
